Gollum Posted August 20, 2015 Posted August 20, 2015 Others have also had plenty of chances - Sehwag certainly got his share for instance. I'm not advocating Dhawan abroad' date=' and even in SC, Rahul is a better long-term option.[/quote'] What is your opinion of K L Rahul? Somehow I am yet to be convinced about his game. He looks too scratchy and dare I say tentative in his stroke play. Both his 100s had several reprieves. Just doesn't inspire confidence when he is at the crease.

But he's got a temperament that indicates that he's willing to learn. Failed badly against Oz, then learnt his lesson and did well. Ditto in SL thus far. He will be found out badly on seaming pitches of Eng in my opinion. However, Indian domestic scene has virtually zero good openers. Mukund was given a chance, Jiwanjot has regressed badly and I feel that Akshath Reddy is always unfairly bypassed.
BeautifulGame Posted August 21, 2015 Posted August 21, 2015 Dhawan can't play quality spin or swing. He just can score fast when he survives. Plus has the knack of scoring runs. Not a future option for us but fits in for now. Dhawan is a very good player of Spin bowling .Not sure what u are basing this on .
jf1gp_1 Posted August 22, 2015 Posted August 22, 2015 instead of Binny they should have flown Raina. He has a good series in SL last time we were there. Much better player of spin than most in the current lineup. Also in these conditions raina is more likely to get you wickets than Binny.

He shouldn't be allowed to breathe the the air within a 25 mile radius of a test match
Vijy Posted August 22, 2015 Posted August 22, 2015 Credit where due' date=' he has bowled well thus far.[/quote'] Been a bit unlucky this innings, but solid performance on the whole.
Gollum Posted August 22, 2015 Posted August 22, 2015 Been a bit unlucky this innings' date=' but solid performance on the whole.[/quote'] 18 overs for 44 including the wicket of the big fish, Angelo. Stats won't tell us that:winky:. He created doubts in the minds of the batsmen and was very tight(E/R 2.44) helping the bowlers at the other end. Give me this anyday over a Varun Aaron spell of 70/1 in 12 overs !!!

He is simply not capable of Test-grade defensive batting... what he should try and do is to play his natural (high-risk) game and go for the shots. It may turn into a counterattacking cameo (or even full knock).

rkt.india Posted August 22, 2015 Posted August 22, 2015 I had said this before too that there is no substitute for good line and length, no matter what pace you bowl, but if one can combine both, it can make you a great bowler to be successful in all conditions. The glass is half full in that regard. Bowlers who have pace lack that control. The ones who have direction doesnt have the pace.
sensible-indian Posted August 22, 2015 Posted August 22, 2015 I liked Binny. If only he can play spin as well as he plays swing. Cmon.

I presume that this is wrt Indian pacers - world history has quite a few who could do both.

rkt.india Posted August 22, 2015 Posted August 22, 2015 But you were mocking Binny the whole time in the match thread bro. So. I will still mock him. He is still just a bits and pieces. He has 1 wicket in 4 matches till now.

His quality of bowling hasn't been that bad. Dhoni underbowled him and he got Gary Balance to edge and Dhoni didn't go for it. Delivered a probing spell this test where he got Kaushal out but no ball. Will come good. Looks like issue is his batting which needs to be more solid.

But that's what they keep saying about the 2 Sharmas.
