Vijy Posted August 22, 2015 Posted August 22, 2015 People aren't just questioning Pujara being dropped, what's infuriating many is that Rohit, someone who has done worse than Pujara has been chosen as the replacement. If Pujara had to be dropped Rohit should have been dropped too. I don't mind sending out a message to everyone by dropping under-performing players. But selectively dropping certain players is what's triggering these speculations. Summed it up well.
Marut Posted August 22, 2015 Posted August 22, 2015 I am not able to understand something. Brother Gollum, Marut and Vijy - can you explain why you think Kohli would remove Chepu, Ashwin, Rahane and Vijay if thir performance dips a bit and not others? The constant Kohli talk on "aggression" does not look right to me. I believe Kohli has an incorrect understanding of what aggression means. He thinks that Rohit and Raina who happen to be ODI players with flair are good selection for test matches despite their flawed technique. For Kohli, aggression is all about being brash and scoring quickly - though there was no evidence of this when India played. In his eyes, the sound technique of Vijay and Rahane may not get the nod over "aggressive" players like Rohit and Raina. If Rohit makes a 150 somehow, he will cement his place in the side for three years, never mind if these runs came against a minnow. But Vijay, Chepu, Rahane and even Ashwin will never get a long rope under Kohli. Ashwin is actually threat for Kohli because he is captaincy material and next in line.

helperononline Posted August 22, 2015 Posted August 22, 2015 I think he failed the Virat Gaali`s test dont see him making into the squad until kohli captains the team
Vijy Posted August 22, 2015 Posted August 22, 2015 There is still one remote possibility open. We have already see that VK favours Nohit heavily. Rahane and VK complete the middle order - the former is safe (for now) and the latter is of course the captain. Hence, the middle order is closed to Chepu. But what of the openers? We already have a trio of players, of which Vijay - a real revelation in most away tours, he is an automatic pick (for now). This leaves: a) Dhawan - Dhawan's overseas record (barring NZ with some flashy knocks) is as poor as Pujara's (who also had one excellent tour, in SA). b) Rahul - the man has 2 100s in 4 tests, but has single digits in every other innings. Appears to be a nervous starter, and some of his dismissals indicate potential technical deficiencies. This means that Chepu may have a chance to reinvent himself as an opener. He has played only 4 innings, so any stats/general observations must be taken with pinch of salt. With these caveats, the following can be said: a) Of the 4 knocks, 2 of them were crucial - on a genuine turner at Kotla against a very good Lyon. Another was also important (score ~ 30) in navigating tricky run chase. b) His SR as an opener is 75+ demonstrating his capacity for scoring briskly as well. Could he replace both Dhawan and Rahul as an opener?
Marut Posted August 22, 2015 Posted August 22, 2015 Players who are not hot in the ODI/IPL teams will not be favoured by Kohli.
Vijy Posted August 22, 2015 Posted August 22, 2015 Players who are not hot in the ODI/IPL teams will not be favoured by Kohli. This is why Vijay will be the next for the chopping block...
Marut Posted August 22, 2015 Posted August 22, 2015 This is why Vijay will be the next for the chopping block... Yes. One tour failure can be costly for Vijay.
mancalledsting Posted August 22, 2015 Posted August 22, 2015 Not to forget he's been spending time in county learning his trade- no other current Indian batsmen has done this
vvvslaxman Posted August 22, 2015 Posted August 22, 2015 Che pu is not marketable owing to his absence in the IPL. So it is a long and hard journey ahead of puji.
mancalledsting Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 Can't play t20, can't play ODIs therefore can't play tests. This is why indian test cricket is in such a low state because of this type of stupid reasoning.

If Pujara had to be dropped Rohit should have been dropped too. I don't mind sending out a message to everyone by dropping under-performing players. But selectively dropping certain players is what's triggering these speculations. The selectors and Kohli had two options: A) Select Pujara who averaged around 25 in the last year B) Select Rohit who averaged around 25 in the last year Both were out of form. I assume the logic was that Rohit hasn't played a lot in the subcontinent and has 2 centuries there so he deserved to be given a few chances there. I understand the point of view that Pujara also has a fantastic record in the SC (with a larger sample size) and he might regain his form if he gets some chances to play there. But if the selectors and Kohli chose Rohit, it does not necessarily imply favoritism.
jf1gp_1 Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 Pujara did better than Lolit even warmup. You atleast are a sane poster ; Honestly tell me do you think there is a some lobby against Pujara ?
Number Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 In Australia even Raina looked a better option than Pujara thats how bad Pujara was playing. Yes, his fielding was top notch.

But if the selectors and Kohli chose Rohit, it does not necessarily imply favoritism. Assessment of Rohit Sharma largely is based on IPL exploits and his freak ODI knocks. I would be shocked if it was evaluated based on his bashing against Windies at home. Quality of Chepu's knock was much better in Tests. His century against England was one of the best against spin bowling on a helpful turf.

Marut Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 Yes I don't think Vijay whos done remarkably well that too such a crucial spot will be tinkered with - that would be the beginning of the downfall of this team and it would be steep. On kohli with the change in personnel hes trying something new like the 5 bowler strategy and playing binny now' date=' playing k sharma in aus - some of these might seem like howlers right. If we had debated on this say 5 years back you wouldn't have found a single taker but in transition we should give him some time to figure things out at his end.[/quote'] Well the treatment meted out to Pujara is a warning for Vijay. I don't have a problem with Kohli trying out some thing new - but going back to Rohit and Bhajji is clearly nepotism.
