randomGuy Posted April 23, 2016 Posted April 23, 2016 was in Hyderabad till a month back. The water mostly came through tankers (similar situation all over the city). The residential society took 3000/- per month maintenance (probably 1500 out of that for water alone which is not fit for drinking). And we got water for 1-2 hrs a day. Drinking water comes in 20ltr cans. hasn't rained much in last 2 monsoons ao this is the 3 rd , situation is very bad. the saying 'jal bin sab soon' is for right reasons I guess.

It rains enough every year to flood major cities, yet there is always a water shortage. That tells me that we don't have enough rainwater harvesting in place. What worries me the most is that politicians across parties seem least concerned with this very real threat. zen Posted April 25, 2016 Posted April 25, 2016 For me, Ind's major challenges are related to managing its over population, natural resources, and environment including pollution and waste management, along with health care and education It is ok if many households don't have a car, TV, etc. but it is not ok if these people have tons of children where many of them don't have the opportunity to go to school and have a secure future to drink water and breathe air that is being polluted by factories that is only making the owners rich get sick and don't get proper facilities to treat themselves Ind needs to have a plan for the amount of population it can actually support and provide them with basic necessities including clean water, air, adequate food, education and health care. It also needs to protect and save the environment for future generations It needs to make huge investment in its infrastructure as well. In the 18th and 19th century Europe went through a similar challenge after being hit with the Great Stink .... If Ind is not proactive, it could head there

We will actually be clearing the backlog of the past. Because women nowadays don't have more than 2 babies. But since there are more people in child bearing age, the population keeps increasing ( plus the life expectancy going up). For me, the main reason is the corrupt and incompetent political class. I have always believed you can achieve big even with less resources given you are smart and honest. Politicians are opposite of smart and honest.

Unfortunately, in India now, attitude of opposing any government move by the opposition has seeped so deep that it doesn't matter whether a government has good intentions or not. Opposition will ensure nothing is implemented. That is a negative of democracy. Singapore was able to do so well because it isn't really a democracy and its leaders had a good vision and implemented it well.

This year, we expect good rain and half the country will be facing floods. There is no long term planning. Kejriwal types are making water free .More interested in spending hundred of crores to advertise his short sited schemes and to hear his own voice in the ads.Who cares about water?He can blame the neighboring states and the central govt like everything else.
