The first Test of the five-match series starts in Rajkot, in western Gujarat state, on Wednesday as India seek revenge for a home series loss to England four years ago. The powerful Anderson will miss the opening Test but could be ready to lead England's attack for the second match, which starts in Andhra Pradesh, on 17 November, said Cook. Anderson suffered a fractured shoulder blade last summer and had been dogged by a recurrence of the injury but passed fitness tests back home on Friday while the rest of the England squad were already training in India. "I was chatting to him yesterday and the second Test is a good possibility. We'll know when we see how his body reacts when he's out here," said the skipper. Anderson took more wickets than any other pace bowler on either side when England won the 2012 series in India and Cook believes the fired-up 34-year-old could be the difference again. "He's worked incredibly hard to get back and has come back so much quicker than we thought. "He's up for it and is not just coming here to make up the numbers so that's great for us. Broad may have good numbers but and is often under-rated but spearhead he's not. England bowling looks really weak if Clouderson is out. As it is, England are missing that one quality spinner that touring teams need to really contend in India. Can't have a weak pace attack as well. Look at NZ - their pacers did reasonably well, and so did Santner - quality bowler - and still they fell short of really pressuring India with the ball. Btw, Pak is lucky that Santner injured his wrist - I think he's a lynchpin player for the Kiwis...

Broad as the most experienced quick will have to be the spearhead, whether he is one or not, and Stokes will run in with all his strength for as long as he can. There really aren't a lot of options I agree, which is why England are on a hiding to nothing anyway, and there's no point risking Anderson. Sounds defeatist I know, but I can't see the point. One thing in his favour I guess is that the seamers will only be used in short bursts, as that's all they'll be able to manage in the heat, so it might just be about manageable for Anderson. sandeep 1

Broad as the most experienced quick will have to be the spearhead, whether he is one or not, and Stokes will run in with all his strength for as long as he can. There really aren't a lot of options I agree, which is why England are on a hiding to nothing anyway, and there's no point risking Anderson. Sounds defeatist I know, but I can't see the point. One thing in his favour I guess is that the seamers will only be used in short bursts, as that's all they'll be able to manage in the heat, so it might just be about manageable for Anderson. England can use him at Mohali and Bombay. It won't be too hot there and pitch might have a bit of hope for pacers. Stokes looks like a good effort guy but I'm not sold on him as a test bowler. Haven't seen much of him apart from the world T20 and the bangles series. I'm aware he had some quality performances with the red ball a couple of seasons ago. tweaker 1

The Overton brothers at Somerset and the Curran brothers at Surrey are the next "cabs off the rank". Jake Ball I another but he doesn't look like a Test bowler yet. tweaker 1
MCcricket Posted November 5, 2016 Posted November 5, 2016 To me Anderson was not same class as Steyn n co, he was too dependent on conditions, and his pace is more like medium/ fast on about 132 to 135 K , also he has performed one of in unfavourable conditions but I don't think he is anything significant, England need to start looking at new kids with pace n skills, don't think they have a good pace attack for India n their spin is average as well, Ashwin n co will beat em black n blue tweaker 1
