Cricketics Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 So as good as chromecast is, I am having some issues with playing some live streams on chromecast. I am trying to cast hotstar's live stream of star sports for the on going India vs England game, but on TV an older segment of the live stream starts playing whenever I cast it to chromecast or even roku. For example some highlights of the previous day's play. If I try to play the same live stream on cell phone or pc/tablet, I can watch it live perfectly. It is only when I cast it to TV, that is when I face the problem. I see it is a M3u8 stream. The casting works fine when streaming something else from the hotstar app. I have noticed the same thing when streaming cricket.com.au live streams. Yes, I can mirror the tab and watch on tv but I am trying to play it from cell phone to cast it to tv like how we can do for youtube etc. Any way?
G_B_ Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 use chromecast.... but sorry not for those things you mentioned. Cricketics 1

How is that different from firestick? How is fire stick going to fix this problem which I mentioned and why you think fire stick is better than chromecast and roku stick? I use Iphone and other than Hotstar, which is an Indian app and hence giving me the aforementioned problem, everything else is just easy to connect from IOS to chromecast. You can play any video site from TV cast app on your phone or Ipad. The new Chromecast ULtra is just amazing, fast, very response and video quality is 4k, better than both roku stick and fire.

I am not sure if I am understanding this correct, but you want to stream a non-youtube video site to Chromecast correct? Have you downloaded Chrome Browser and TV Cast App and play your video via that on your phone? I have done that before on my IPhone(not sure about the sites you mentioned)...not sure which phone you are using-Apple or Android. Edited November 15, 2016 by maniac

I can stream everything to chromecast other than some live stream from Hotstar, from my cell phone. I have the new chrome browser on my iphone but the cast tab options only appear on sites like youtube or netflix and not Hotstar and some other sites since they are still not fully mobile ready. So I end up using that tv option which is located on top of the app, to send the stream link to chromecast to play on tv or use browsers like that chromecast tv cast or rocket browser. The live stream link which tv/chromecast keep recieving from the browser/apps has a m3u8 extension, which is a set of files and chromecast doesn't understand that and hence it keeps playing the first file which is part of the m3u8 and doesn't play the live feed which it should.

I can cast the tab from my pc, but then I won't have opened this thread. My whole idea is to just play live stream from my cell phone to chromecast.

This one is not free but cheap though. I have it for a year for 5 devices including cell phone. Trust me, Hola's Indian VPN doesn't even work now. You can go try right now and It will not. It can work for other countries but India one doesn't. Hotstar blocks it.
