Modi gets a lot of plaudits for prioritizing 'big' projects - bullet train, GIFT city etc. But its the nitty gritty and improvements in execution and governance that also needs a lot of attention. Pictures of "new" coach and "gatimaan express" everywhere. Its eye-catching and sexy. But how about the unsexy behind the scenes work of improving safety? Why is Indian Railways still building old and dangerous coaches when its a known issue? I still think Modi is leaps and bounds better than the other morons that we have. But he does need to get his government to focus and make progress on the work that's not exactly marketing friendly. How many trash processing stations have been built in India after announcing "Swacch Bharat"? Sure, its great for social media to have celebrities take photos and videos with a broom. But where's all the trash going? Is it being collected and picked up regularly? Is there a process in place to separate out recycleables. That's not very publicity friendly work, but that's going to decide whether our public spaces get and stay cleaner. Laaloo 1
MechEng Posted November 22, 2016 Posted November 22, 2016 (edited) The thing is India has the world's 3 longest railroad network in the world behind US and China, but the big difference here is that the area covered by Indian railroads is much smaller than that of US and China, hence it becomes a very complex task to maintain quality railroad safety regularly. It also appears that the locomotive pilot applied emergency brake when the train was travelling at 110 km/hr, this was a fatal mistake, should have slowed down first. What do ISI gain from a railway accident in a BIMARU state ? It doesn't deter foreigners to visit India, nor it does malign the image of India like a terrorist attack.
