They all mostly exaggerate and this is in our nature to eulogize past. There are plenty of videos available to watch with your own eyes. That is silly, considering those people have played on those pitches themselves and are more qualified to talk about it than you. It is in our nature to eulogize the past as well as to aggrandize the present as the 'best there ever has been'. Plenty of videos available shows that the pitches in the caribbean and particularly in Perth bounced significantly more than they do today. Link to comment

CoverDrive
Ashwin is definitely a test all rounder for us. Question is in LOIs. He is not a big hitter or fast runner so is not that effective coming down the order. Maybe they should try him in top 4 in ODI's. He will have less bowling load and can be used to build the innings while other play aggresively around him Link to comment

He was a much better batsman than what his stats shows is a futile argument when someone has played 131 tests. Regarding, him taking wickets in those places. England he might if he finds drier pitches. Cant see him doing well in Aus, SA, NZ. I mentioned that he was a better batsman than his stats suggest because of the value of his innings in the same manner that I consider the sum total of Sehwag's value in the Test team more than just the runs he scored. Both were capable of turning matches around with their batting, Sehwag being a specialist batsman a lot more reliable than Kapil. Nevertheless, Kapil was a phenomenal batsman and had he given more attention to his batting and played with a little more caution, could have easily averaged over Imran and Botham. Technically, he possessed all the shots in the book and could execute them at will. Link to comment
Cricketics
Regardless of slow pitch or whatever, playing against those West Indies must have been a big deal and scoring a century was just top effort. I play cricket with lot of West Indians and their family come and watch us play and they talk about how they respect two Indian players more than anyone. They always mentioned Kapil dev and other being Gavaskar. All those old Windies folks know their cricket as they have seen the Windies dominate oppositions in different islands of Windies. So regardless of slow pitches, scoring against Any trio of Windies bowlers must have been real hard and Kapil scoring century there has to bee commendable effort at that time. Exactly, and honestly I don't give a damn about pitches these days. People are calling that commentators exaggerate about past performance, I think same way users here and supporters everywhere make too much of a big deal when a player fails overseas or takes wickets on only certain tracks etc. If someone is average over 35 away from home, I think he is still pretty decent to me. I saw some 90s pitches where Indian team dominated at home and I don't see much difference in today's Indian pitches from the past. Even look at Australian tracks of 2004 when our bats dominated to the 1998 series where Tendulkar got Man of the series but India lost 0-3, they were similar, it is just that as a team we batted better in 2004 compared to 1998. And as the Australian tours continued, we started batting better other than that 2011 series where we struggled as a team. express bowling 1 Link to comment

Whether people embellish their own eras or not, it is universally acknowledged amongst players and commentators that pitches in west indies and Australia were way faster in general 20-30 years ago than today.
