We should look to score 130-140 in first 20 overs and 140-150 in the next 20 and 90-100 runs in the final 10 overs. We are struggling between the overs 35 and 45 and that is where the problem lies, not with the openers.

We are not even scoring at 7rpo at start. Both have individual numbers but there are concerns with them

Struggle on juicy wkts

Strike rotation

Both arevslow starter so 1st 5 over dont produce much, it matters as now powerplay is only 10 overs

Dhawan against off spin in middle overs

When u have found someone like kl, its a better option than dhawan. Now if pant n nair comes offf dhawan has to go. Unless he produced mindboggling numbers

Pant scores 59  off only 36 balls with 2  sixes and 8  fours against full strength England ODI  bowling.

Has hit English quick bowlers Plunkett, Ball and Stokes for 4s and 6s .

This is what new age batters can do and this is what we are missing by playing 2 mediocre SR batters like Dhawan and Rohit as openers....as well as  slow finishers at No.5 and No.6

The mindset of this generation is different regarding SRs.

It doesn't matter how they start as long as the score board reads 130-140 at the end of 20th over. Openers should make sure we don't lose early wickets so starting cautious on tough wickets is the way to go, because we don't have a reliable middle order.

About tough wkts , these guys start cautious or cant be touch the ball if u Rem Sa n NZ series .

Even i dnt care care how u get 130-140 runs in 20 over but these guys hardly do that unless its really a patta. I dnt wanna our cricket to go by yardsticks of Patta , those patta have left australian cricket at helm today.

Also powerplay are meant to get quick start unless its really moving around, if saving wkt is the only thing well lets gets pujara and vijay to open

This may look like 59 runs but the way it would have come wud have dented the confidence of opp bowler and how. This gives so much of time for next coming batsman to come in. Specially if i talk about dhoni who can breathe easy with such start with his dip. Or else in most cases he has to come n start going, such starts give u such a breathing space.
