Who ever expected rahane to be virat, that person needs to apologize to rahane n virat both for having such a bizzare thought Kl rahul can be an out an out match winner but no one can be virat kohli. He is the best in the world when it comes to short format. Edited January 13, 2017 by Ankit_sharma03 express bowling and Ultimate_Game 2
beetle Posted January 13, 2017 Posted January 13, 2017 Let's not compare any one with virat or any one else. I hope Pant ,Nair, Rahul all become future stars .

Ultimate_Game Posted January 13, 2017 Posted January 13, 2017 My question to OP: who expected or even thought Rahane to be comparable to Kohli? Rahane was never a good fit for shorter formats and this has always been true. It's like saying that it was expected Murali Vijay to replace Sehwag in shorter formats.

I am not comparing d two..rahane was made vice captain..They thought rahane wud eventually get d hang of loi's since he is technically correct..dat z y he got such a long rope in loi's even though his strike rate was low..n obviously he dint..stepping into virat's role dsnt mean bcoming virat kohli..but trying to do d role wat he does for d team..
Wristy flick Posted January 14, 2017 Author Posted January 14, 2017 I am surprised how some icfers think dat their being on this site for a longer time automatically qualifies them at havin more cricketing knowledge dan others...talk bout livin in a bubble

Everyone thinks of someone online differently. The people who did not agree with you above in this thread aren't really trying to be mean to you. They are sharing their opinions about your thread. Anyways, on topic, Rahane is actually a brilliant player who might still win us few games in ODI'S. But the problem is that the LOI has changed a lot and as much as you, me and many here know that Rahane can play every format, one thing is true that even though he can play every format, he hasn't shown consistently in 50 overs that he can actually play according to the situation. He has now played 70+ games. Rahane got many chances, even sometimes ahead of many players, because we all believed that he was capable of playing in every format as he has shown in IPL that he can score. However, when he was given chance, he hasn't scored and that average reflects it very well. Sometimes, the average can not paint the full picture, but here it does. He has not batted well consistently in about 70 games. I like Rahane, and believe he can still win ODI's but we have to try some other options since Rahane hasn't been able to do it on regular basis. He is capable of scoring like he showed in warm up, but the problem is consistency and during important scenarios, when we do not really need to lose another wicket and want a run a ball, big p'ship. Many players are waiting, I mean seriously look how many players are playing in Ranji and IPL who are waiting for a chance and ageing year by year and being left to see same players playing again and again. Put yourself in their shoes and see how waiting for so many years is just totally wrong. We need to try some other players now. sandeep and tweaker 2

Rahane neither had the SR or the average in shorter formats. He doesn't have the game to succeed in shorter formats and it has been apparent to folks seeing hum bat from the beginning. He can't accelerate even if he is set and can't quickly to save his life. He's in the Murali Vijay mould who can score against poor quality bowlers in IPL but against better bowlers/attacks is found out. Selectors and BCCI can back him all they want but the end result will be him failing and ending up out of the team similar to Murali Vijay. He's a good Test batsman just like Pujara and Vijay and should stick to it.
MCcricket Posted January 14, 2017 Posted January 14, 2017 Some players are natural stroke makers, while some like to hustle n r street smart like Dhoni, Rahane falls into a Dravid mould who took a longish time to be OK in ODI especially in older ODI format, now with T20 a bigger influence on ODI n bigger totals being the norm, Rahane doesn't have the game or stroke making ability to score at 100 or more n he falls in 70 to 80 S/R which is poor. He got more then enough chances n he put too much pressure n lost form in test a bit, in the long run Rahane will have to work on his game ie, rotating strike n putting good ball's away, yes he is class n a brilliant test batsmen , can he make it in ODI mostly no. On the other hand Pujara is underrated n he has better chance to succeed, as he uses his feet n crease plus has more power, he has to work on agility though. tweaker 1
