Yes, I sympathize with Morgan and England about the bad decisions.  But their public stance on umpiring puts so much pressure on this Shamsuddin guy.  Wouldn't be surprising if he gave a wrong decision or 2 in their favor now -that's if he even stands as umpire in the next game.  

 

England's players have always been letoff easier.  Remember back in the day, when ICC went on a rampage against bowlers for celebrating before looking back at the umpire to confirm?  Stuart Barbie used to be guilty of this almost every game and was never pulled up.

You don't.  We do.  Lot of Indian bowlers were penalized for that.  Look.  I don't want this thread to turn into a finger pointing nonsense.  Lot of this is water under the bridge at this point.  But the 2000s was a bad phase for the ICC's selective enforcement of rules of cricket, especially the subjective ones.  

 

Bad umpiring decisions suck.  They take away from the game.  We've got 2 top sides competing hard and the players as well as fans deserve better decision making.  They take the focus away from the game.  ICC is a stupid organization - if they can check the noball after every dismissal, there is no reason why all dismissals are not automatically reviewed in the time it takes for a batsman to walk off.  Keep DRS for the bowling team when the umpire gives a "not out" that the fielding team disagrees with, and limit those.  Its simple, not really rocket science.  But the ICC is much more likely to complicate things instead of making them simple and clear.  They are morons.  Its what they do.  

 

Shamsuddin is not a great umpire - but he's doing a tough job.  And its almost like umps are set up for ambush.  He is not given the benefits of technology and tools that he could and should have.  Instead, those are used to put a spotlight on him, when the ump will screw up.

I'm not going to go digging around for player penalties - I don't know of any statsguru type search engines to look up ICC penalties in previous years.  But I remember feeling pissed off when I saw our guys being given "suspended" game bans and $$$ penalties - while Barbie got off scot-free for doing identical things.  Repeatedly.  Its one of the reasons I can't stand Barbie - he's  actually turned into a quality bowler over his career.  But that history, and his slap-worthy face are the white noise that disrupt my perception of him.

^ Broad have been fined too. But it is a fact that he got away with a lot of stuff. Just that we never noticed his fines.
