Left arm spinner has been problem to us and opposition as well. This is history repeating it self. Shaun udal anyone ? Monty and now the new kid. So if you bring at least a half decent left spinner you can win matches in india.

Udal was an off spinner.

I'm afraid if the home team don't fight back in this series, the Border-Gavaskar Trophy could go the way of the Frank Worrell Trophy and Trans-Tasman Trophy, and become a complete non-event. Australia already hold those other two trophies in perpetuity because of how weak the West Indies and New Zealand test teams are, and if India can't beat Australia at home, where are they going to beat them?

Come on boyz, prove me wrong!

(And yes, I'm well aware that Australia won eight series in a row against England between 1989 and 2002-03, and some people questioned the relevance of the Ashes during that time.)

Now this is exaggeration,Ind is still a way better than side Aus in these conditions.Still big time favs to clinch this series.

First, why win and loss and is being mentioned here? It's not about the match results, rather it's about batting performances. Batting failed in almost all innings against SA too even though we won 3-0.

Sure earlier Indian team collapsed against spinners, Udal, Clarke, etc. But difference  is that there was no consistent failure on spinning tracks and batters rarely failed in BOTH innings. Moreover those collapse were under pressure when team was chasing huge total and trying to save the match. When Clarke took 6-9, before that SRT and VVS were destroying bowlers and scored at quick rate. Team scored 200+ on a pitch worse than Pune pitch.

I don't recall team failing to cross 150 in both innings in India.

Most of the time it used to be freak collapse on last day. Here Indian team is failing consistently whenever there is lot of turn.

6-125 v SA

7-128 v SA

6-140 v SA

6-178 v SA

8-81 v SL

6-160 v SL

6-132 v Eng

10-105 v Aus

10-107 v Aus

Some scores in last 15 months.

Not really . Against England slaughtered their spinner

this track has risdublus turn. Last time we played on crazy turner was when Michal Clarke got 6-9 (something like that ) against possibly greatest batting line up this planet has seen v spin.

When we get on normal spinning tracks (like for rest of series ) we will see who is weak against spin

this track was not a turning track it was bonkers lol you will see this o keefe being brought to his knees from now on

On same pitch best Aussie batting line up were bowled out for 94 and here Aussies scored 280+ against top 2 ranked spinners.

No its not .

It has a lot to do with advent of T20's , defensive game is pretty non existent for most batsmen and you tend to get exposed more on turners or against spinners in comparison to Pace bowlers . Even in the era of big4 if they had to switch between three different formats they would have struggled imo .

From current line up only Kohli and Rahul bat in all top 6 in all 3 formats.

it makes little difference if these guys play for India in all three formats . All of them play T20s for their respective state/IPL teams . Even some one like Pujara who does nor play IPL has publically made it clear that he wants to play T20s . While batsmen in the past trained/practiced to defence etc right , these  guys would be using good amount of that time practising a scoop ,reverse sweep or a switch hit . Then there is also a challenge of switching between three different formats .

See am not saying these are only reason , but a huge factor which cannot be ignored imo

I have seen conventional spinners like Ashwin,Lyon,Adil Rashid,Sodhi, or even Yasir taken to cleaners even by tailenders....Tahir too is poor in tests...... but Moeen Ali,Jadeja,O'keefe,Santner and Shakib who are plain old school darters are the most threatening....even when they don't get wickets they are economical.

Herath is a cross breed...mostly comes across as a darter too but has variations...not a pitch only kind.

Something has changed....earlier darters were so ineffective..now we are living in the age of the darter

Where is the switching formats comming from ? They just had a practice match with Bangladesh. They just underestimated Australia.

You watch Sehwag,Dravid,Tendulkar,VVS,Ganguly play spin and everyone else will look stupid. That line up was the best spin playing line up in history.

Michael Clarke baggged 9-6 v this line up . Should we have axed and panicked after that ? Hell no and they came back and got us to number 1 these magnificent legends

can we not show some patience now after just one bad game ?

The knee need jerk reactions are perturbing
