He doesn't play much in helpful.wickets because he generally isn't good with the new ball as we say in Sri Lanka .

Kohli didn't even pick him for the 3rd test there.

If anything flat wickets with low bounce are the ones that suit him the most.

All those past matches do not matter much  as Umesh's bowling has changed now

The main thing is ......Umesh  is combining accuracy with pace in the last few tests..... something which was not present before as the accuracy was lacking.

If he can keep this going, he will succeed home and away.

Unless we try some new fast bowlers, we won't know whether they are better or worse than  Ishant

Need to play Aniket Chaudhary in some test matches.

Future Team for Outside Asia Tests  after a year  --

1) Vijay

2) Rahul

3) Pujara

4) Kohli

5) Rahane

6) Pant  ( Will hopefully be ready as keeper after 10 months to a year  )

7) Vijay Shankar ( proper batsman+ batting all-rounder-4th seamer )

8) Ashwin

9) Umesh

10) Shami

11) Aniket  ( tall left arm fast bowler )

Reserves -

Parthiv  ( reserve opener )

Nair

Ishant

Bhuvi

Hardik

Jadeja

--  Strong batting till  No.8, hence depth in batting.  Even Shankar is a top order batter.

-- 3  frontline genuine fast bowlers + 1 support  pacers + right-arm-left-arm combo

-- 1 spinner

-- Backup keeper + opener in Parthiv

-- Backup pacer all-rounder in Hardik   and back-up spinner all-rounder in Jadeja

-- Middle-order backup in Nair

if we can get to this team by 10 months to a year... it would be very interesting

Fast bowling requires so many things to fall into place at the right time. And Ishant always seems to be struggling with one issue or the other all the time.

There's no way he's going to be dropped. Delhi boy and kaptaan's close aide. He will continue to play and plunder runs..

Well Kohli did not show any confidence in him last match. That surely debunks your theory a bit.Am sure there will be a change.
