Vilander
And now South is aligning itself. Another polarization around the corner in the union, this time North vs South. BJP govt is making some crucial mistakes..we need stronger right wing something that units all the right wingers like republicans do in US. http://www.hindustantimes.com/india-news/language-war-pro-kannada-activists-to-team-up-with-dmk-to-protest-imposition-of-hindi/story-pdlQdBwhYPLsDlsBlWihVI.html the reasons are weak governor addressing a joint session in Hindi ( they could have had translators) but kinds know how this can be received in South..more mistakes done everywhere. Today, all people in the Hindi-belt states are mono.linguists. There is no North vs South. Hindi is one of the two official languages of the union govt and widely spoken relative to other native languages. If we have to promote one of Eng and Hindi, the preference should be given to the native language

Rest is all secondary, ego-driven reasons. if most of India tomorrow wanted Romanian as national language, thats what it should be. Most of the south and east do not want Hindi as national language. bleaf27
Indian politics has always been a disaster. Why the hell did you not designate an official language back in 1947 - nothing decisive in this country. No wonder everyone keeps fighting because there is nothing dictated by the constiitution. Choose a god damn language for the national language and let people speak in whatever they wanna use.

Lannister
Hindi should be completely taken out as a mandatory subject in schools from non-Hindi states. It should be only considered under electives along with other languages like Sanskrit. The native language and English should be given more priority. Because it helps to connect with the majority of world. That's the same logic for Hindi. Hindi is essential to connect with majority of India. And every state has a local language but it's only southern India which is making noises. Like Gujarat is fine with Hindi so south India states should not politicize Hindi. Only 26% constitute the native Hindi speakers, remaining have all their own native languages. Learning English has more advantageous than learning Hindi.
