Can Anderson end career with sub-25 average?

Started as mid-30 avg bowler, improved to consistent avg of 29-30, now in last 2-3 years he has managed to drop it to 27.39.

Yeah, but he has been averaging below 20 in last 2 years.

Anderson's career path is similar to Ricky Ponting. Ponting was brought into the team purely on the basis of natural talent, but he kept under performing from 1996-2001, it was from 2002 onwards he picked up consistency and became one of the greats. Andu was an average bowler till 2008, but all changed from 2009 onwards.

Anderson's strength lay not in just taking wickets. He has an ability to bowl long spells and tight lines.

 

I do suspect if Moeen ali falters in the ashes with the bat that plan B would be Anderson picking up extra overs with the ball.

 

Would not classify Anderson as being a strike bowler. Is more of a multi role bowler. In a way average should not be the guiding metric in classifying his greatness.
