Success of Lakshan Sandakan: A signal to BCCI to nurture and select Kuldeep Yadav

Recommended Posts

Lankan Chinaman spinner Lakshan Sandakan went through the Aussie line up like a hot knife through butter. It shows the utility and importance of a wrist spinner espcially one who is rare like a Chinaman.

Take out a 34 yr old Mishra and we dont even have a replacement leg spinner.

India arguably had the most talented Chinaman in Kuldeep Yadav. But he is nowhere near selection. He has been wasted by BCCIs failure to nurture him combined with the fact that he plays for UP,where the captain and third rate leg spinner Piyush Chawla picks himself ahead of Yadav.

India may be losing a prospect who can be important in winning India test matches.

It is a signal to the BCCi to nurture all good wrist-spinners, whether legbreak  or chinaman.

Samar Quadri, Kuldeep Yadav, Sarabjit Ladda etc. need to be groomed with special care as good wrist spinners add  something extra to the attack.

Not Ladda please. He is 30 and avgs 32 in FC.Not test material by any chance.

Quadri is 27 and if he doesnt get a chance in next 2 years he is over as well.

Yadav at 22 is our only young prospect.

Kuldeep Yadav should have made debut till now,but he is not even considered for A team

Blame that Chawla for that.

You are right...Ladda's age is a problem because he is not even in the A team.  His FC average of 31.9 is a bit deceptive though as he has matured as a bowler only in the last 12 or 18 months.  He was really bowling well in the last season, getting turn both ways, getting bounce and setting up batsmen.

Quadri is a massive turner of the ball....almost like Stuart McGill.  He has just turned 27 and age should not be a deterrent for such a talent.  A few sessions under Kumble's guidance may transform him as a bowler.  I hope he is called up in the next camp held under Kumble.  he just needs to improve his googlies and flippers.
