Positives from the long home test series

KL Rahul came of age,Umesh Yadav evolved,Kuldep Yadav introduced in Intl cricket finally and last but not the least Ishant fortified the fact that he is redundant.

Kohli had a bad series but he did lead the team very well the whole season. He will be criticized for some of his antics but i think he has evolved as a cricketer. One thing i realised is that he is in some ways like dhoni who will lead due to his personality and relationship with the players. He is again like many modern captains not tactically the most astute. But he back his team fully and takes the pressure on himself. 

 

Overall the unseen presence is that of Kumble - I think he has proved to be a good choice. he is a hands on coach who will help the team out in the practices (like kirsten and not that fatass fletcher). Also some sensible decisions throughout the series. What sounds more promising is he is working closely with Dravid in identifying young talent and looking for fast bowlers etc.

And this is the most important attribute a team must have, especially when playing in tough places like SA, Eng and Aus. You have to be competitive and take the game deep without giving up at any stage. And then you'd end up winning a few games.

 

Same thing applies to Aus/SA/Eng when they tour India. You cannot boss away the home team winning every single session. You have to keep pushing and be in the game for as long as possible. And you can do it consistently only when the team is resilient. Aus was in this series, and they weren't in their sub-con tours in the last few years.

Winnings despite losing the toss. Another positive.

Coming back into games despite giving away massive first innings scores. The way ash stepped up agisnt NZ with the bat. 

This team can still win without Kohli.

Adding to what others said, winning on a pitch with lot of pace and bounce against Aussies is an amazing achievement and shows the evolution of this side and ability to win on different surfaces.

Even though we lost a match to Australia this series was so much better to watch than others

Winning a decider without Kohli. Clinical finish of series.

Umesh,Jaddu, Kuldeep have been stars. Specially Umesh and Jaddu.

Our Batting was not up to my expectation but highlight was that grinding double century from Chepu at Ranchi, which  took away most heat off Aussies team.

Yes this was one of the reasons that our fast bowlers outperformed theirs in the last match

Exactly, Sucked energy and Demoralized Aussies. Had someone managed to pull that kind of inning in first match, Series scoreline would have been totally different.

Jaddu and Umesh.

 

Negatives:

M. Vijay and Kohli.

 

Stable:

Rahul, Cherapunji and Saha.

 

Vulnerable:

Nair and Ashwin.

 

Grass and fodder :

Ishant and Mukund.

This series also high lighted the fact that team is not dependent on 2-3 players.Most of players have contributed.Would have loved to see debut of Hardik, Shreyas, Anikeet in the series

Another positive emerged is the captaincy of Rahane.He will be ideal foil to Kohli aggressive captaincy

So many new test venues making test debuts.

 

Despite my reservations about Dharmashala,great pitch.Indore had great crowds.Lot of different types of wickets throughout the season produced some riveting contests.We played some great exciting cricket too.

 

So all in all a most enjoyable home season .
