Pujara - He is probably best batsman in subcontinent atm. He was good in all series and played important knocks regularly. 12 fifty plus scores in 23 innings.

 

Kohli - He improved his home performance by great margin this season which was just a matter of time for player of his class. Scored 3 double centuries and showed that he is a big inning player. Missed out in Australia series.

 

Rahul - Easily the 3rd best batsman overall and best in the BG trophy series. He was very consistent and he has already shown that he can play big innings.

 

Saha - He bailed out team on different ocassions and scored 2 important 100s. With his limited abilites he has shown fighting attitude.

 

After these 4 batsmen, we have Rahane and Vijay who got runs and scored 100s bbt were very inconsistent for their reputation. Rahane was exposed against spin and Vijay somehow couldn't manage to convert start on multiple ocassions even after seeing off the new ball.

 

Jadeja - 556 runs at avg of 43. 6 fifites and he was probably better than Rahane. Generally his batting seems like fluke with hoicks and luck, but he showed that he apply himself and play like proper batsman in his last inning against Australia when he took calculated risk and survived new ball too.

 

Ashwin - He just couldn't bat as well as he has been doing throughout his career, but played few good knocks.

 

Rohit, Karun and Jayant - Not sure how much chance would they get in future, but it's a good bench strength for sure.

Jadeja - He was easily the best bowler this season showing his abilities even on flat tracks. It's amazing how much he has improved in all facets of the game.

 

Ashwin - He has set bar high for himself. Although he was outbowled by others at times, but he kept on taking wickets and 5-fers. Great performance in first half of the season. 

 

Shami - Easily the best pacer for India.

 

Yadav - Biggest positive of BG trophy. Not only he managed to pick wickets, but he did it with great accuracy.

 

Bhuvi - Produced a great match winning performance.

 

Ishant - For all his good economical, tight bowling he just couldn't pick wickets. Avg of 41 and SR of 94.

Jadeja - 9.5 (MVP)

Pujara - 9

Ashwin - 8.5

Kohli - 8

Rahul - 7.5

Saha - 7

Shami - 7

Yadav - 7

Vijay - 6

Rahane - 6

Batsmen were great but with all due respect to them, our bowlers really bailed us out plenty of times. Ashwin and Jadeja were top class,bowled in p'ships. Also at times when one did not look like taking wickets the other stepped up.

 

Special mention to Shami and Umesh who too stepped up their skills and participated well in the demolition of the teams.

Good summary. 

 

Ishant keeps sliding down the list of pacers. The TINA factor is no longer in his favor.  A clear 4th option after Shami, Umesh and Bhuvi.  Still, may edge out on Bhuvi for 3rd seamer on a complete road i.e. Aussie type track, but even that is questionable at this point.  

 

Slight concern for me is Murli Vijay.  Starting to show a bit of weakness outside off-stump - something that has been his strength for quite some time.

Vijay ia a real worry, far too inconsistent as reflected in his avg and even when he gets in, he gets out without getting a big score.

Scoring a spate of double hundreds will do that for you!  To me, his game turning 200 at Mumbai is right up there in the memorable batting performances this season.  ChePu has had a few of those as well.

Kohli scored 813 runs in 4 innings and 439 in remaining 17 inning. He scored big whenever he was in.

IMO close-in catching, especially slip catching is the biggest weakness of this Indian team. There are no natural slip fielders and we are lucky to drop less than 3 catches an innings. Have to get much better on this front if we intend to win away where we won't have our spinners create that many chances for us and we will have to rely on our pacers to get teams out. Can't do that unless we catch nearly every chance in slips.
