The Daily Fix: Gau rakshaks murder another Muslim. Is bovine anarchy India's future?

Those committing such heinous crimes in the name of "cow protection" are indeed terrorists and should be put in jail. I have a feeling though reading most of these articles that the guys committing such crimes are just trying to hide behind the garb of cow vigilantism to carry out their crimes.

I am disappointed on one point regarding the article in OP. It seems like the article is written with an obviously anti-BJP bias. The author has conveniently quoted one of Modi's supposed speeches in which he seems to be criticizing the former Congress-led Union Government's tax breaks for animal slaughter as opposed to extending subsidies to farmers. Here is the speech without Mr. Shoaib Daniyal's interpretation of the same.

(Note that this was back in 2014)

A more neutral interpretation of this speech would be that Modi does not like tax breaks being extended to slaughter houses and would rather like re-purposing those funds to extending some tax breaks to farmers. Now, you may agree or not with this, but he does not seem to be calling for either a ban on slaughter houses or seeking cow vigilantism (at least in the quoted speech).

Of course, the author is completely and I feel deliberately missing out the criticism PM Modi dished out for so-called cow protectors in 2016. Read the entire article here and some excerpts are also posted below:

Quote

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday used his first-ever townhall to deliver a lacerating statement on "Gau Rakshaks" or cow vigilantes blamed for outrageous incidents like the flogging of four Dalits in Gujarat last month. Most of these people are "anti-social elements hiding behind the mask of Gau Rakshaks", he said.

"I get so angry at those who are into the Gau-Rakshak business. A Gau-Bhakt (cow devotee) is different, Gau Seva (cow protection) is different. I have seen that some people are into crimes all night and wear the garb of Gau Rakshaks in the day," PM Modi said, answering a question at the interactive session to mark two years of his MyGov initiative.

PM Modi said he would urge states to prepare a dossier of so-called Gau Rakshaks. "70-80% will be those who indulge in anti-social activities and try to hide their sins by pretending to be Gau Rakshaks. If they are true protectors, they should realise that most cows die because of plastic, not slaughter. They should stop cows from eating plastic."

The prime minister shared that while working at a health camp for cows, two buckets full of plastic were removed from one animal's stomach.

So, dragging the Prime Minister into every such crime committed by an anti-social element is not wise. Of course, we have members in the media with their own ulterior motive, as is the case with the one who wrote the article quoted in the OP and these people do a bigger dis-service to the country by writing lop-sided articles.

My two cents to finish off: If we can make money by exporting animal meat, which is in high demand in the rest of the World, because the internal consumption for that meat is low, then we should avail of this business opportunity. I hope the PM utilizes his "bijness-side" of his Gujju brain to view the opportunity rather than succumb to the pressures of some of the more extreme elements among his supporters. But in order to do so may also require a more modern mindset for some of our rural folks who are so entrenched in past customs that they do not even realize that no holy Hindu scripture actually bans beef consumption.... and that may take a long time.

Why is Modi silent here? He should condemn such acts loud and clear. He is behaving like MaunMohan Singh on certain issues.

Because Gau-Rakshaks are mostly RSS fundamentalists and Modi does not have the balls to go against RSS fundamentalists. Atleast, not yet. I predict that if BJP wins the next election and looks poised to sweep the one after that, Modi will show the chaddis their aukaat.

This may also be a classic strategy of 'setting the chaddis up to fail' by giving silent backing but 'waiting to * up badly', like US did to Saddam. Makes it way easier to go after these Hindu-mullahs that way.

I think RSS chaddis did this to give cow slaughters a bad name. What is Modi doing?

Irrelevant. Make a new thread for it and get people to condemn it there. You will be surprised at the results. But get rid of the mentality that you can justify the crimes of your favourite political-religious group by citing goonda-ism form others.

TBH that is more than 8 months old news. Pretty sure people would have condemned the act of crime then.

This thread is about the atrocities of cow vigilantes and their hooliganism which has spread insecurity amongst many people involved in this business. Not just Muslims but many Christians, Buddhists, Dalits and even some caste Hindus consume beef. In North India beef is mostly buffalo meat and Hinduism isn't against consumption of buffalos. In many Bengali and North East temples, buffalos are sacrificed regularly. So why doesn't BJP/RSS condemn those. In Goa and Kerala BJP supports beef eating(even cow). BJP knows that beef=mostly non cow meat in Hindi heartland but they are deliberately bringing up cow/gaumata over there to polarize people and instigate Hindu sentiments. it is merely a tool by them to further divide Indian society and reap political benefits.

As someone said, for BJP cow is Yummy in some places and Mummy in other places. Moreover these gundas are targeting anybody who deals with bovines, even dairy farmers and agriculturists. So many people depend on this dhanda for their daily roti but are now in constant fear. Is this sabka saath? If govt can't create new jobs, why take away so many jobs? We are a 3rd world country with so much suffering and problems. Is beef our number 1 issue? India should be looking at the future, how to improve her condition in another 30-40 years. In stead our politicians are dragging us back to the 14th century with their medieval mindset.

I voted for BJP in 2014 and also in the assembly elections in my state. But I have every right to question and criticize them when I feel they are doing something wrong. We shouldn't be like sheep surrendering our minds to some higher authority. We should always question our ruling class because we are living in a democracy. India is much bigger than any political party. Modi, Kejri, Pappu will come and go but India will live on.
