I think we need both - I think we cannot go wrong if we strengthen batting and bowling.   So either we keep Pandya or Ashwin

or Bring in Karthik and Shami.    I feel Karthik and Shami/Umesh may be a better choice.

YEa karthik is another gr8 example of 12-13 yrs of failure of sheer talent due to lack of temperament

The difference is Karthik is being used here for one game , him being in the squad , not as a savior.   Shehzad and Akmal are expected to run the show

We need to replace Ashwin with Shami as that will solve the main problem, i.e. we will have a wkt taking option in middle overs. Ashwin at the moment is not a wkt taker in odis.

His fielding has been atrocious , he doesnt bowl

But in this tournament so is Pandya and Jadeja - they aren't clicking . So Shami in for Ashwin - we are still stuck with Jadeja / Pandya with close to 17-18 overs between them with no wickets and high RPO and one less specialist batsman

Yuvi still can bowl if Virat lets him ,  If jadhav was given the ball today why not yuvi ?

Yuvi beasted against Pak in first game - firlding isn't atrocius - still better than many others .

Virat doesnt let him bowl, dhoni didnt bowl him after 2011 much 

He doesnt bowl much for punjab or his IPl sides, means there is an issue. May be lacks confidence or control or as dhoni said his bowling isnt suitable to 4 fielder outside circle 

 

His catch was dropped in 1st game, neways he scored runs but looked patchy after wards

ofcourse his fielding has been terrible

well Yuvi as a batsman can still be better than Pandya/Jadeja nd others , haven't seen enough of Jadhav - but with Jadhav bowling also and decent with bat in one game he had the chance in the middle  I'd keep em both.

Pandya is bowling like Wahab - not gonna do us much good.

As I have said on other threads, in Pandya's case it is sum of all the parts that offer a great value to the Ind LOI side .... his performance in at least one department if not more is almost guaranteed in a game

Straightforward. Shami in  Ash out. Now that i see Jadhav can be more than useful Shami will be  a handful against their sloggers. I would even have Umesh if possible :)

Watched some of the old vides of Shami.. Man.. what an outstanding  bowler he is.  Half his career wasted due to injuries. He is the reverse swing bowler i have seen since Zaheer khan.  Infact i would say he is even better.

Ashwin- god help us.

How do we know Shami's not fit? Who has said so? Last we saw of Shami he was bowling pretty well in warmup matches.

 

And as for Pandya being replaced by Umesh, why? Why would you weaken your batting against the best bowling attack you have come across? Ashwin replaced by Shami/Umesh makes sense but why on earth drop Pandya when he has performed well against Pakistan everytime he has played against them?
