Dravid justification on our low runrate in 1st 10 overs

Defend first and explode later. Why?

Just explode first. If it works then explode towards the end as well. If it doesn't than Defend later.

 

Why are we always looking at our finishers to compensate for our best batsmen. Look at  finishers to get extra runs not to make up for lost runs.

Never make a mistake of going with preconceived totals, you play bowling on its merits and after 30 overs decide what total is good enough to achieve. You should be good enough to defend whatever total you get.

our batsman in such amazing form that against Bangladesh they did not go out with intention to smack . Just such form they get pinging it . I expect same again v pak 

 

what I don't want is wicket thrown away in first 10 . 

Playing on merit means attacking loose deliveries too.Right now they aint doing it.Obviously dont want them to slog away

 

Pakistan bowling has been good in middle overs.We have to make use of powerplays with calculated risks

I feel there is a gap in the market for some team to revolutionise ODI batting in particular on flat pitches. It seems all teams are set in their ways of following a particular template in how to construct their innings. The period of batting between 11-40 is where some innovative ideas are needed and could set a team apart from the rest. Maybe target alternate 5 over segments, not only would this provide some momentum to the innings earlier than usual, it would force teams to bring back their better bowlers and affect their game plan for the death overs.

 

For all these coaches being paid mega bucks, why are we not seeing any innovative approaches? England have tried to some degree and NZ under McCullum but the rest are so rigid in their ways. Is it more difficult than it sounds?

I don't think all teams have the firepower at their disposal to drastically innovate. India does. But then maybe we are doing something right since we are are always at or near the top of the ODI ranking

The aim should always be to set the benchmark higher. We have all the resources in the world to be trend setters. Once one team does it you can bet your bottom dollar the rest will follow.

I have no problem with that. Both are capable of laying into bowlers in the middle overs. They don't depend on power play. If this is what works let them continue the same strategy. Last thing i need is a collapse.
