We did save a series against SA under him in 2010-11 and he is probably Asian captain to do that in history of cricket. He survived as player in test team because he was best we had. It's not mystery.

The point was we played like 3-4 series against them under his leadership, yet we couldn't beat them even once. Not to mention his pathetic overseas records in other countries. 

Yes, he was our best Test player just like how we all thought that he was our best T20 player.

Name other Asian captains who had returned unbeated from SA. He will easily find a place in all time Indian test XI for sure.

The test match that we won was under the old guard. Once they all retired, he looked clueless to carry that form with the the new set of players. By the time he retired, we were lagging behind at the 7th position in Test rankings. Look at what Kohli has done in just a matter of two years. 

Because of lack of quality wicket keepers he might make it. But that doesn't mean he was a good Test player. Just look at his averages and compare that with the keepers from other countries.

Pathetic merry go round display going on in slips.

 

Kohli has removed Rahane sometimes from slips even though he is our one of best slip fielders.

 

Kohli, Dhawan, Rohit all butter fingers are resting in slips even though they keep on dropping catches.

 

Even after so many matches, he hasn't figured out our slip fielders and continues to keep his buddies their to give them extra rest.
