Is Jayant Yadav a valid #6 Test bat consideration vs Rohit Sharma, Dhawan and Hardik Pandya (Tests)

When we need 6 bats:

Is he a decent contender for #6 as a batsman in Tests (longer format) ?

When looked at as a batsman only - over people like Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan (at #6), Hardik Pandya (in Tests #6 when primarily looked at for batting in Away tours )

His offspin is bonus - part time variety (say like Sehwag's offspin). So, dont expect much there, though  he is a tidy bowler.

(And not looking at Hardik Pandya bowling vs JY bowling, just batting). When we need 6 bats.

 

Better batting technique to survive in seamer friendly conditions, and score a bit than some 'premier batsmen' .

(Grew up batting in Lahli conditions)

 

How did Jayant Yadav (batting-wise) fare in domestics this season?

In subcontinent yes, overseas.......i dnt see any point of his bowling.

But in subcontinet ashwin n jadeja are very able batsman so kuldeep comes ahead of jayant 

 

May be somewere against a team that has many left handers

Baba  - like I said - I am asking ONLY batting in away conditions from Jayant Yadav.

Ignore that he can bowl spin (though its useful as part-time spin). Just as 6 batsmen ?

Jayant Yadav surprisingly has one of the strongest defensive technique for a lower order batsman. He gets right behind the ball almost all the time. If only had slightly better bowling skills he would have still been in the scheme of things.

Forget bowling - just batting.

Just like we sometimes select Parthiv Patel for batting (and have another keeper in Test 11)

Similarly if we ignore his bowling as useful-part-time-only

Thats because he bats in tough conditions in Lahil I think.

Is this a joke, Jayant Yadav may be an handy no 9 or no 10 at best.

Jayant Yadav can be a proper top order batter if he wants to

 

His bowling is very mediocre.

 

Really liked the way he was watching the ball while batting, going to the line of the ball to play,  looked comfortable against international pacers and putting a price on his wicket in test matches. He should start batting in the top 6 in domestic cricket from now on.

 

He should work to be a batting all-rounder and not the other way round.

don't think he has the ability to score 100s with the frequency expected of a top 6 batsman IMO.
