What proof? He was MoM (scored 160) in our only win in NZ after 1976. Top scored (193) when India won a match in England in 2002. Top scored (91) when we won in England in 2007. 117 in WI when India won a test after 26 years in WI. Scored 71 in Perth test that India won and there were no hundreds in that match. 194* in Multan as well. Also got a hundred in our only away win in the 90s against Lanka.

All our top order batsmen have the pedigree and technique to succeed in overseas conditions. The major hurdles are all in the mind. Our guys have the weight on their shoulders to register the first ever series wins in south Africa and Australia. They should back themselves and remember that the opposition bowling attacks are just as wary about our batsmen.

Kohli will do better than sachin.. Thats for sure  Standards he set are really low won't be surprised if Dhawan can over take him in away tours.

I like Vijay but feel that he is being a little over-rated off late. Going by the narrative, it would seem that he has a Amarnath-like record overseas. He averages less than Sehwag outside the sub-con FFS. Should definitely be picked ahead of Dhawan though.

vijay has always been a patchy player. I think he did better from 2014 onwards. using the above link and adjusting to Jan 2014 onwards, vijay has avg 41 which is good for an opener. of course he's not amarnath, dravid or rahane but these stats are very good for an opener in mostly challenging conditions.

Remove WI and he is better than Viru. Will further improve once this cycle is over.

to each their own...fantasy. people will point to kohli's stats not realizing that in oz, nz and even sa (to some extent), he mostly got flat tracks to feast on. Eng and WI had more challenging pitches (although WI has a crap bowling attack) and his record there reflects his true ability. similarly, on real turners, barring a few innings he has not done much of note. would pick jinx ahead of him abroad and chepu in SC.

I don't think WI pitches are easy to bat on, although their bowling is a joke. arguably it was slightly better when veeru played.

He was indeed very good in the last overseas cycle which is why he should be first choice along with Rahul. But I don't understand how he's better than Kohli overseas. Better in England? Sure. But otherwise Kohli is well ahead everywhere else.

a lot of it is down to kohli's merrymaking in Oz. and the eqn is very diff for an opener vs #4. On tough pitches overseas, I'd rate Rahane and vijay higher than kohli.

But why remove WI? Sehwag played them in 2006 when they weren't completely hopeless like they're right now. In any case, I hope he improves further in this cycle as that would mean India being much more competitive.
