Does India Need a Caste-based Quota in Cricket?

Cosco Tennis ball was 22-25 rupees

Yes, 20 rupees a piece and we lost it like once in 2 weeks or more. So it was manageable. Leather ball, we probably lost 5 in 5 days once before stopped playing with it. Those were days when getting 1-2 rupee was enough and 5 was big amount, lol.

Another problem was that we couldn't change the place as at other places either there were kids playing somewhere or people walking here and there. So we were always risking an injury.

we used to play matches for ball. both teams would collect money and buy a ball and whoever wins the match wins the ball.  :giggle:

That was another way to arrange a ball for us too. 14-15 players contributing 25 rupees for a vicky ball. :D

Matches would rarely end well. In close matches there was always a fight.

True. Unlike football, it can hardly become a sport which everyone plays.

Even in our school days,, once we managed to get good bat, pads and gloves, played with leather ball but eventually stopped because we were losing balls regularly. Leather ball would travel easily in grass than tennis ball. At that time leather ball used to cost us 50+ rupees (in early 2000s). Few weeks and we had to go back to tennis ball.

New balls for us were reserved for saturday games. Used to practise with old balls. No money for pads and just use to put on one for the front foot initially. Later on the club had more money but it was poverty all around.

and it is also very difficult to find places to play cricket with leather ball where you dont proper net facility. we used to play in a school ground which had one side very small and houses in that side.  There was always a risk someone could get hit with the ball.

Is there still a caste system in India? Indians in Australia were telling me there wasn't a caste system in India.

Did a search on Youtube and guess what, there are some shocking documentaries on the caste system in India.

Yes, very much. It is an inescapable fact of life. Your caste is used by the government to decide your eligibility for college admissions, jobs etc. Caste system will go away in India only if an apocalypse wipes out the country's population entirely.

That is a disgrace, I saw a YouTue doco on people working in the sewers in Mumbai and they were saying all of them are from the lower caste.

They were working with just bare hands, no shoes, no equipment either and these people were cleaning sewage, this is the 21st century I can't believe India does this to its citizens. And they were saying that they will always be lower caste even if they are well-educated etc, it's a disgrace it's basically slavery.
