He has done reasonably well for MI when batting at #4. He looks a better prospect compare to others, atleast till the world cup gets over.

no rohit will fail at 4 again

1. he likes the ball coming on bat, which is better at opening then at 4

2. he cnt take pressure so at opening u can play acc to urself, at 4 ull have to play acc to situation

3. at opening he has powerplay where he can get away with poor shot at times if it clears circle, and just clearing circle getting few boundaries get his confidence going

4. he isnt much of rotating strike kind of player so he struggles in middle with someone like kohli or dhoni

5. he has opened for yrs now and is set their, changing back to middle wnt be easy now

Their was a reason he failed in middle before, IPL is far easier then international cricket

There's valid criticism and then there's prejudiced hyperbole. Rohit never has had issues in rotating strike with the field spread out. Nor does he have a problem in clearing the ropes. He'd do far better than your deluded predictions.

Massive difference taking singles after playing your self in for 15 overs and when you bat in the middle order, in fact even when he's set he struggles in the middle overs. The biggest skill you need coming down the order is playing according to situation, this is where rohit will struggle and especially being poor under pressure, its going to be fun watching this joker bat at 4.

Completely agree and to add T20s is still fine where you have to just hit from the first ball and little time to think.

yup he needs to be given a long run at 4

but ur asking here to drop rohit n make rahul open , how is that solving no.4 problem

We don't have a solution for No4 currently, if there is one I can think off it won't happen.

The only batsmen who can just ease into no4 role is Virat and in fact I think he will win more matches for us at 4.

Dhawan

KL

Gill/pant/shaw

Virat

We can hide a youngster at no3 imo and make a solid Top4.

That's T20s and more so a domestic one, no one said sharma can't bully mediocre bolwlers. It's when you have to do that when the team needs you and against quality bolwres the lesser players succumb

do not change virat position, he is ur best batsman

HE has said in past he likes to control things from no.3 and let him do it. His perfomance wnt be same at 4 , neither will someone be as good as him at 3. So lets not even try

We did that with tendulkar to, he wasnt half as effective n niether was he happy

Always give ur best player whatever he wants coz he will win u max number of games. U dnt fix what aint broken.

Gill/shaw are new so needs more experience as of now . Pant isnt helping his case as of now in India-A, others are doing much better. Shaw has huge flaws with his game and wud be exposed at international level soon.........so needs to play domestic n A-games for sometime to polish his batting .

No.4 solution is KL rahul. The guy has 100 in T20 at 4 ....how many has that

and again u do not drop a batsman with rohit sharma record, n m one of his harshest critic saying this u cannot touch his place at this point in Odi cricket

It's the toughest job and should fall on the responsibility of a senior player. Making Rahul bat in the middle order who is a natural opener will hinder his development. It's not easy to adjust your game for two different positions for Tests and ODIs.

Test opening is easily the toughest batting spot in cricket and for the shorter format its the reverse.

I have a lot respect for Viru, cos hes one of the few batsmen who took up a much tougher role than he was specialised at. A middle order batsmen going on to be become a great Test opener is unheard of. Normally its the reverse, every one wants to open in LOIs and hide behind in Tests. Sharma is one such case. Just  cos he's a senior he will not take up a tougher role now, even if he's forced due pressure from media/fans he will not do well.

KL is a specialist test opener, so for him batting in the middle order in Tests should be easy and opening in ODIs is much easier, middle order may be not. KL is a very versatile batsmen though unlike Rohit  and if he's in the same league as Virat he should be able to adapt. Question though is it worth the risk?
