There was a talk before the last IPL that there should be a salary cap for uncapped Indian players. At one point, Pant was only brought in to play just one T20 game (his debut match) before mysteriously vanishing from the squad. How do you think it was made possible? And of course, Kohli don't have the balls to go against his master Dhoni, so Pant had to leave for the time being. 

It has more to do with CoA fighting with Dhoni than anything lol

If Rohit is so supportive of youngsters then why he kept Rahul out in the start of nidhas trophy and played others even though there was extra room this time as Kohli wasn’t playing?

 

Dude the fact is that its not that easy to play every player and al the youngsters. So I won’t blame any captain. Its always easy to blame captain sitting in front of one’s pc.

 

Sometiems for team combinations you might drop youngsters after playing them few games but then the priority of the team is always to win important games then give a youngster extra chance. Yes grooming youngster is imoportnt and must be done, but at times, you have to drop them to play someone else if you feel as captain that it might hurt the team.

 

Eventually you can see Pant is learning. He is still raw and keeps playing crazy shots to get out, but he will learn hopefully but he hasn’t really set world on fire since he has come. I hope he does though.

 

This is coming from me who is a big Pant supporter. 

 

At the end of the day, you can play only 11 players in the ream, so not everyone’s favorite will get picked everytime they want. We have to consider that and lower our expectations. Currently both Rahil and Pant are being backed. Pant played whole of England test series too and now playing LOi’s too. Same with Rahul even though both have struggled a bit at times.

Problem is with him not playing Pant as a keeper batsman .

Both Pant and dk are keepers but Pant is a specialist keeper. Pant is not in any way inferior to dk as keeper so why not play him as a keeper . The selectors selected him as keeper.

 

He could play dk as a batsman and Pant as keeper batsman if he has so much confidence in dk because of that one match in lanka. 

 

Dk is not our future wkt keeper...so why?

According to Kohli,dhoni left t 20s so pant could get a chance....so why not play him as a keeper?He is a specialist keeper batsman ,not a pure batsman ? 

Why are they testing and judging him as a pure batsman?

 

Rohit is doing this for some one else. 

If he can let him captain the side for his 200th match as captain ....even making the selectors unhappy,he can easily make things difficult for a youngster.

Thats valid point,I won’t mind Pant as keeper when Dk and him both are playing r even when Dhoni is playing. Unless they don’t rate pant’s keeping at all, then its a different thing. I agree, Pant needs to be played as a keeper, but I guess it is not going to happen before world cup until Dhoni is there and since Dhoni is much better with the gloves(his keeping standards have dropped too), he will likely keep in the wc.

Top post. I agree with all your points, only thing is that they're still clinging on to Dhoni very well knowing that there are 2 other players who are much better.

We all know dhoni is going to keep in WC but why not let Pant keep as his reserve ?

Why this charade of getting dk as his reserve when he is not long term option.

Why the hell is dhoni so insecure about letting him keep even in his absence?

It's simple. Rohit thinks DK is better. Their history go backs to Mumbai Indians too. I don't think Rohit will act like Kohli ie. bending to the whims of Dhoni.

What separates Rohit from Virat and Dhoni is usually Rohits willingness to play the bench in dead rubbers and give everyone a shot.

 

I have seen Dhoni and Virat play the same stale X1 even when the series is done and dusted.

 

That is the best thing for me about his captaincy more than on field strategies etc which I think all 3 of them are more or less the same when it comes to that.

 

Anyway playing devils advocate, it might be easier for Rohit to make such decisions in a temporary role than guys who have to continuously Captain.
