  • Gill has a chance to make it to the WC squad. May be Pant can make it too
  • Looking at how Bhuvi and Khaleel are bowling, we may need to strengthen up the pace bowling department
  • Pandya, I hope, will be back for the #7 AR slot

Agarwal and Shaw, whose form should be leveraged upon in LOIs,  appear to be in consideration for tests only at the moment

unlikely selectors will choose proper back-up options for pacers in ODIs. looks like our 3rd pacer will be a huge problem. other option is to go with 2 spinners but chahal has struggled in eng in the past - not sure how he is bowling presently.

gill will be in WC squad. he can thank rahul for it.

pant will be in if dhoni retires

dhawan,rohit,gill,kohli,rayudu,karthik,jadhav, dhoni/pant,vijayshankar/pandya,jadeja,chahal,kuldeep,bumrah,shami,bhuvi/khaleel

this will be the team. bhuvi could get edged out by khaleel if he performs significantly better which looks unlikely.

most likely KL and pandya will not be in WC squad.

Prithvi Shaw could have been a great addition to the ODI team.

He has a SR  of  116  and an average  of  41  after playing  25  List A matches.

He is perhaps the most prolific upper order stroke-player in India now.

Could have been a much better number 4 than Rayudu.

4.  Shaw

5.  Pant

6.  Kedar

7.  Pandya

Could have been a very high SR middle order.

My instinct is to replace Pant will Gill. I believe that, even in this era, having one middle-order consolidator who still scores at a decent SR is very useful. Gill's overall List A SR is around 86, but it has actually increased since his first 10 matches or so (when it was in high 70s). As of late, I think it has been in the mid 90s, which is good enough.

You need a keeper    : )

damn. I was infected with greybeard-itis and had assumed he was there. ideally, would have liked to see more of both pant and kishan for ODIs. I suspect kishan might be marginally better for odis, although his higher list A avg is because of opening.

Rohit

Dhawan

Kohli

Shaw / Gill

Pant

Krunal / DK

Pandya

Kuldeep

Bhuvi / Chahal

Shami (for wkts)

Bumrah

15 - Saini / Khaleel / ....

PS likes of Agarwal (in good touch), Rahul, etc., if they continue to show good form, can be an option too for the #4 slot

no experience in middle order, you lose one opener and kohli like yesterday and this team wont even cross 200.

experince does not count for much if all they do is tuk-tuk uselessly like karthik (and dhoni), or get out cheaply like rayudu. ideally the youngsters should have got longer run, but selectors and TM demonstrated zilch long-term planning for 2019 WC. we are just paying the price.

Top 3 clicking in all knockout games is the only way we will win WC. Kohli has one shot at winning WC and he has himself to blame if he doesnt. WC 23 is in India kohli will be 34 - 35 by then and like most would himself be a burden on team by then.

Good to see youngsters / new players such as Shaw, Gill, Agarwal, Pant, Krunal, etc., in the line up .... Let’s see if some of them get to do a debut in the WC or just before the WC to play in the WC

Some new players / debutants who have been successful in major tourneys: Sidhu in 1987 WC (probably played here and there before the WC), Yuvi and Zak in CT2000, ....

Yes,I'm sick of all this talk of experience,we went with a similarly experienced squad for WC 2015 what did we get,all crumbled at the first sign of pressure.

Highly talented players can make an impact straight away, likes of DK and Rayudu can play for another 5 years but dont expect jack from them.Mix youth with experience.
