6 should be a guarantee, 5 should be a relatively safe bet but I think 1 team with 4 wins (and best NRR) will get through, especially if Eng/Ind run through the group stage and a few matches get washed out. 

Each team plays 9 matches.

Imagine a scenario like this, total 45 matches:

Eng 8 wins

Ind 8

NZ 6

Aus 4

Pak 4

SA 4

WI 4

Lanka 3

Ban 3

Afg 1

 

I can imagine such a situation playing out, if rain plays spoilsport there will be some lucky teams.....recall how Pakistan escaped in 1992.

Don't write off any of the teams apart from Lanka, Ban and Afg. Easily a team can sneak through at 4th place and win the 2 KO matches to be crowned champions. Australia and Pakistan will be especially dangerous if they somehow qualify to the semis.

WI is the dark horse for a spot in the last 4. All their players are likely to be available for WC. They have some interesting youngsters who are getting better with every game they play

Others i will be genuinely surprised. 

 

I somehow feel  ENG- Aus final and Aus will win it. I think they have suffered without their key players and have toughened and now got a new pace bowler ( already they were ok). 

i would be surprised if SA make the semis , their mid order is worse than ours ans with andile P as the all rounder they are a disaster in the making

4th slot could goto anyone of pak, sa, nz, wi. 

 

All teams are mediocre. Cricket will be poor like we saw in asia cup.

NZ is also overrated team. Surprised that so many ICFers are putting them in SF.  Even I rate them highly before this series.

 

Apart from India England the rest 2 spots could go to any team.

Realistically minimum 4-5 if you want to sneak through. I can't see SriLankan/Bangladesh/Afghanistan consistently pull of that many wins to qualify for round two. I would even add WI in that list aswell.

This world cup every team will get found out. Everyone plays everyone. No room for hidingfor any team. Pata lag jayega kaun kaun sher hai aur kaun kaun murgi.

 

Winning couple of games in heroic fashion after losing few games won’t take you anywhere. You got to show consistency over 9 games to qualify for semis as easily any one can bounce you out of top 4.
