Do we need specialist fielders in the squad as backup?

How many can be in the world cup squad? Is there a limit. Looking at our current fielding i have very little hope. Wonder if India can squeeze in someone like Manish Pandey as he is a game changing fielder. The catch of Sarfratz in the Asia cup is a case in point. As a substitute fielder he could be handy.  Honestly i would even take him over this Biriyani. Jadeja is another excellent fielder. Can be carried as a third spinning option.

Neither Pandey nor Rayudu should be in the WC squad.

Pandey and Rayudu are similar type of players.  They can be middle order accumulators, but not guys who can boss top-shelf bowlers.  Pandey is by far the better fielder, while Rayudu is much better against spinners.  

 

If the team had confidence in Dhoni's ability as a reliable insurance policy from 40/3, they wouldn't need another accumulator in the middle order and would slot in a guy like Pant, or DK in the middle order.  But the fact is that Dhoni's batting can only be considered as a bonus at this point.

I don't mean to say he should be in the playing XI lol In case a fielder walks off your replacement should be a gun fielder at the least.

And let's be honest, his batting in LOI hasn't been that impressive either.  He's young and very likely to get better.  But needs more game time.  

 

He should have been playing ODI and T20 for the last year already.  But instead team decided to stick with "experience".

It is important to have atleast 3 very good fielders. Under Dhoni we had Raina, Jadeja, Yuvraj. Dhoni himself was no mug in keeping.

 

 The current team fielding is poor and this may cause potential exit in knockouts. All the more reason to consider Raina in 15 for WC.

so why not assign the specialist fielder role to another useless cricketer- Jadeja

This is more like a specialist substitute. Let us say you have a choice to choose between Pandey and Rayudu as a specialist fielder. Who would you pick?
