Mariyam Posted February 25, 2019 Posted February 25, 2019 (edited) I think I've seen it all now. Earlier it was fellow Muslims judging each other on their 'Muslimness'. Now even non Muslims are at it. @Gollum Levity aside, the group that had raised objection complained to the Police. Now leave it to the Administration to mediate. Your angst would be valid if they vandalized the set/hurt people. The first link you posted said that the idols were placed where the local Muslims pray. Don't you think that is a tad bit insensitive? Given that Islam particularly forbids Idol worship. Why would someone place the idols right there? Edited February 25, 2019 by Mariyam

Now even non Muslims are at it. Calling a born Muslim a non-Muslim is the highest praise I can bestow upon anyone. I also consider Abdul Kalam a non-Muslim, so you are in esteemed company . I respect such people a lot because we are born into our religions, but to question them and adopt a tolerant stance (esp in rigid Islam) is laudable. Your angst would be valid if they vandalized the set/hurt people. I ain't angry, just that I fail to see reciprocity of gestures between religious groups. Quote The first link you posted said that the idols were placed where the local Muslims pray. Don't you think that is a tad bit insensitive? Given that Islam particularly forbids Idol worship. Why would someone place the idols right there? OK so now you are getting dangerously close to earning back the 'Muslim tag' from me . Even assuming for a moment that they pray in an ASI protected castle how will having a few idols for a film shooting (again just a few hours) disturb them? It is not like the film crew were asking the locals to pray to the deities...after the shoot pretty sure they would have packed everything and gone home, and permission was granted by the Karnataka govt. And Chiranjeevi takes a great deal of pride/care in his pro-Muslim image for votebank purposes...I highly doubt it was a deliberate attempt to be insensitive. Islam prohibits a whole lot of things, but this is the 21st century where humans have to live and let live. If tomorrow you read the Quran in a corner of a temple (real life, not a movie/video shoot) I can guarantee the other devotees will let you be, this despite there being objectionable references towards infidels in the book. And what does it say when 5 times every single day the Hindus/Sikhs/Jains/Buddhists/Parsis etc are forced to hear in the blaring loudspeaker that there is no God other than Allah, that Allah is most great etc. Don't you think that is insensitive? Insensitive in this case would have been Chiranjeevi doing the equivalent of 'dance of the devil' from the movie Haider (outside the Martand temple destroyed by "Sikandar the Iconoclast"), or worse someone dressed like the Islamic prophet running and hiding in the bathroom. I believe we should not need to repeal article 35A right now, wait till JK has favourable business atmosphere, then would be the right time to repeal it. Until then, persist religiously to counteract terrorism.
Dil Dil India Posted February 26, 2019 Posted February 26, 2019 (edited) @mishra ji made an excellent point in another thread about how we can possibly suspend Art 370 citing the fact that it can be effective only when POK is returned to us. Mehbooba seems to be inciting violence with those statements, but nothing will come of it. People have got away with worse. If you are a "secular" person in India, you can say anything. On a general note, regardless of what Owaisi says and how truthful his claims are, we must make sure that we don't alienate our own Muslims with irresponsible statements. Many a time, I've noticed how India-Pak battles degenerate into gaali-galoch about each other's religions and the Indian Muslim is left feeling aghast. Whatever the sentiments may have been in 1947, we need to understand that the Muslims of India are as Indian as anyone else. I am talking about the common citizen - politicians will be politicians, let's ignore them. By alienating them with irresponsible statements we are playing into the hands of both the pseudo sickulars and also Pakistan, who live for such things. Edited February 26, 2019 by Dil Dil India

Yes, no need to alienate Muslims in India with a. 200 mil population. But, also there is no need to falsely narrate that they didn't want Pakistan in 1947 and wanted to stay back in India out of patriotism. Also, there is no need to sugar-coat the history of Moghuls about how they are not invaders and belonged to the region. Let them accept it, feel sorry and move on. Repealing 370 unilaterally, after the SC has ruled on it is a slippery slope. We need the SC to back down first or reverse their decision, otherwise future govt may use this for their won greed. Just install India centric judges there & get the act done, I'm definitely against breaking our rule of law to make just the one state work. Now 35(A) is more relevant & would be interesting how courts react to that, if at all. The PDP, NC & separatists are biggest beneficiaries of 370 & 35(A) there's no way they'd support it, the status quo suits them the most so why would they?
