His interviews before the result and his reactions after the results shows a man undergoing a shock and some serious calculations. He rose in stature in BJP, now that Jaitley is out sick and he is projected as #3 in the party. He is not a divider like other insignificant leaders like Yashwant Sinha. Advani/Bal Thackerey backed him. Rest of the young uns were running helter-skelter not sure whom to follow. In a way, loss in 2004 was blamed on Modi.
