Their Army has looted the country for decades.

Instead people should be paid what they deserve in respect to the living standards of the country and let people make their own homes and buy their own cars like we do this side of the border.

The forces do have housing boards which make houses at no or less profit for the people in the forces that they can buy if they want so that they have a place they can move in once they retire.

That is fine. They have looted but that does not mean they cannot give better perks to their officers. Yes we have housing boards but we don’t get free homes.

AWHO, ismein bhi ghar kharidne mein pasine nikal jaate the. Things have improved in 2007 I think whenever the pay commission was implemented but I don’t think our officers get free homes. Great if that has changed

Their Army is run like a business , so they make more and distribute more. I am not saying either way is right or wrong

BTW on this forum a fellow Indian has accused the Indian Army of taking prime land at dirt cheap prices. @G_B_ can share more with you.

Army is under the elected govt.

Everything the army has belongs to the country...so what does it mean get land at dirt cheap prices.

Govt land should be provided free to the army . They are not builders that they need to sell or buy land.

Cantonments are usually started far away from cities. Slowly the cities expand and then the land becomes expensive .That is when politicians and builders start eyeing that land and start accusing the forces...like Nitin Gadkari who wants the Navy out of Colaba's  expensive land.

Atleast the land in the cantonment stays safe with them instead of landing in some builders pocket .

No sir. That is your opinion. As I said on this forum people have had issues with Indian Army getting land at dirt cheap prices, while you are saying give it free.

In prominent cities, Army locations are right in the heart of town. As an example just go and check where is CH, AFMC, ALC, CTC in Pune and how close it is to MG Road, a prominent location in Pune.

Dhaulakuan in Delhi is another example.

I am not saying how it should be. I am just sharing how it is. Whether it is right or wrong is for you to decide yourself. I’ll take a free home any day whether I am in civil or Army

Why should any one get free homes?

People should be paid well and everyone should save and buy homes according to their needs and capability.

The housing boards just makes it easier to buy and manage at no profit basis so that people do not have to run around too much specially when one does not know where one might be posted next. It is for convenience and people get to live in a similar environment post retirement.

The houses are cheaper because of low profit margin by the board.

That is all together a different argument - why should one get free homes. But then why are you comfortable giving free land then?

But then you can also question:

why should I get discounted stuff from CSD

why should I get a bottle of old monk in 35 where as a civlian pays 200

why should I have access to swimming pools, tennis courts, badminton,TT etc.

why should I get special passes at Katra, when civilians wait for 3 nights

why should I get free higher education when civilians pay like a lakh a year

Armies in some countries don’t give the above perks too but we get it in India

Army is not a private organisation .

Why should an organisation which is under govt buy land from govt.

Besides Army should not be involved in any kind of selling or buying of land.

It should be provided land for its operational needs by the govt.

All these places you mentioned are very old. When they started...these places were far outside the cities.

When my dad was a young officer...Dhaulakuan was outside the city and almost a jungle. Can't blame the Army for the city expanding and encircling the cantonment. Can't expect them to keep moving out and establishing again and again.

As long as they can function in the present place, it is fine. When things will get difficult, the govt can establish new cantonments outside city limits....which will again be crowded in a few years.

I meant land for Army operations...or homes for families while in service. Not personal homes.

Yes. But if one is being given a free home, isn’t that a better perk or the person should refuse to take it on moral grounds?

Ok. Dhaulakuan may not be the right example for starters but RR there was built after 2000. See how big that hospital is and what could be land prices there in 2000.

But Pune, Bangalore, Nasik, Kolkatta, Chennai. Army has land in prime locations, not thrown in corners or outskirts of cities.

Will army refuse if they are given land in prime locations. Perks are always welcome.

in Pune, cantonment also charges 30 rs per trip for any commercial vehicle which uses their roads. That’s another perk.

Those are perks and privilages that the service provides to make the forces an attractive place to be in.

It also compensates for low pays...just like govt jobs provide subsidized accommodation and other perks in place of higher salaries that private sector provides. It enables the people in the forces to have a decent way of life inspite of lower pays in comparision to their peers outside the forces.

Or like the airlines provide free or subsidized tickets to its employees.

Who is giving you free higher education?

Only children of  late soldiers get free education....that too not everywhere.

If by free education, you mean subsidized education in KVs or Army schools...then KVs Re for all central / state govt employees with trandferable jobs.

Army schools are cheaper because they are not run for profit like many private schools are. The purpose is to provide continuous education without the hassles and the financial burden of admission at every new place a person gets posted to .

These things help keep the morale up and concentrate on their jobs. If a person can't pay the school fees or has to spend time ,effort and money every time they get transferred ,it does not help the work environment in the long run.Unlike private jobs, transfers are not optional for the forces.

No sir. I had free higher education in a government college. Father still alive.

Children of deceased get seats in colleges, not sure if it is free or not

similarly other armies give homes post retirement so that it attracts more people to join that organization.

I am sure everyone will be happy if sarkar can give free land to the Army, barring locals like G_B_ and regional parties like SS and MNS

think i have made my point on this. Nothing more to add

The army hospital should be close to the cantonment . You expect people to drive across the city for treatment. Besides  if it was govt land,it can be given to a govt organisation irrespective of the cost. Ot is given to the army to run a premier hospital...not to a builder for profit.

Idiots who complain about these things do not have basic common sense. They do not understand the difference between govt property and personal property.

While the hospitals I have mentioned serve local population, majority come from far off locations or war zones.

ALC is Artificial Limb Centre. Locals

dont need it that much.

CTC - Cardio Thorasic Centre. People come from across India

AFMC is a medical college.

MIlitary Intelligence in prime location in Pune.

But besides the point, you said it yourself. Army needs land in prime locations and the government is giving it. It is a perk.

Also Cantonment charges 30 rs per commercial vehicle trip as a perk for using their roads. Sounds unfair to locals but it is a perk.

who told you Army schools are cheap? Unless something has changed they follow tiered fees structure with high for officers and the reduced as per ranks. Anything but cheap.

i haven’t understood your point though. You want to force Pakistan Army to pull that home perk off or just criticize it. The marines get lot more perks in the US. Are you saying that is unfair because it is more than what Indian Army gives?

Most govt colleges have subsidized fees.

Btw...govt doesn't give accomodation etc even during service.

The rent, electricity ,water etc are subsidized by still paid for. Just becsuse you or dad did not have to stand in line to pay the bills,it does not mean it was not paid.It gets deducted from salary.

The hair line crack in the washbasin has to be recorded at time of taking over house...else you pay for the washbasin when you hand over the house.

If you paint a wall a different color...you pay for that wall to be repainted when you leave .:p: Not to mention ,the subsidized house is more often than not, pretty substandard.

Have to give it to this greatest showman of the last decade from Indian cricket. He still finds inventive ways to keep himself in the limelight and people are still falling for this crap.

I think he knows already that he's going to * up spectacularly in the WC. This could be a distraction to the gullible fans who will be arguing about this and rather not on his performance. His wk was quite ordinary in the first game.

Kiss that WC goodbye India. :wall:

Compare them to private schools and see.

Tiered stucture is fair .
