sandeep Posted June 13, 2019 Posted June 13, 2019 It starts to make sense once you realize that having a functional manned space program requires multiple trips. Just sending astronauts in a one-off 'glory' mission isn't good science. Having a space station will create a destination and pathway of iterative trips for astronauts - which in turn will mean that our tech - across the board - for launches, space suits, facilities in space, - soup to nuts - will keep getting worked on and get better. I don't the cost factor is too much of an issue tbh - the biggest cost component is the launches, since we have that capability in-house, the rest is manageable. diga, The Dark Horse, Mariyam and 1 other 4

If Indian governments did not have the foresight to invest in ISRO satellite launch capabilities, would ISRO have such a profitable business today? If Homi Bhabha had lived longer, things could have been so different. One wonders about that plane crash sometimes.

The International Space Station has outlived its promise and there was some talk of decomissioning it, but US has still yet to ferry astronauts in their own spacecraft since the Shuttle was retired
