Less population will give you more opportunities. Just because India had 1.25B population doesn't mean even half of them ll take up cricket professionally. Too much politics and total different cutlure mate. Not many parents ll encourage their kids to take up this sport unless they are well involved in it. For example Mr.Yograj pushing his son Yuvraj into this sport.

Cricket isn't even NZs national sport though, rugby union rules over there, Rugby League is big too.
