The World Cup should last 4 weeks only.

Every damn world cup in recent times is 6 weeks in length, why can't they make it 4 weeks like the football or rugby world cups? Is it too much to ask to have two group games a day?

Football game lasts 90 minutes.

ODI lasts 9 hours.

Overlap of games means lower/split viewership.

Only practical way to reduce tournament duration is splitting teams into groups and reducing number of games

Fair point, the group idea is good. Maybe 4 groups of 3 with the top team foinf into the semis.

That's what they tried in 2007. That failed badly because Pak and India were ousted in the first round causing massive viewership loss

No in 2007 it was the top two teams that qualified from four groups of four for the super 8 stage. It was probably the longest dragged out world cup of all time. The fact that India and Pakistan got knocked in the group stage was really pathetic on their part.

they will not take the risk because one of their cash cows like ind or eng in principle could exit in the 1st round itself.

On a less serious note, the best solution is to have 3 of the 4 SFs predetermined (Big Three) and have the rest of the teams fight over the 4th slot. this way the length is reduced and the ICC (being the greedy organization it is) is happy and so are the Big Three.

I was thinking exactly the same thing. The problems with cricket are endless.

ODI cricket is pointless and useless since the advent of T20. Drop ODIs and keep T20s and Tests only.

The CWC has almost always been a joke because they are never consistent with the format, super 6s to QFs and now to this sh*t again?

Time wasting by captains (Dhoni was the worst) at the deep end of matches. Sometimes it feels as if it's taking 10 mins to bowl an over.

My solution to this dreadful CWC if it has to exist would be as follows:

1-4 play 5-8 randomly and publicly drawn in a straight knockout format. If India or Pakistan or England or whoever loses tough sh*t, you're on your way home. It means 3 games to win the title and most importantly no f**king dead rubbers. Yes the tournament shoudl be short, but should be completed within a fortnight and guess what, they can run it more frequently. Maybe every 2 years or even every year if it can be accomodated.

Cricket is not football, we have a handful of decent teams and every 4 years we present this neverending garbage?

Ok then 2 groups of 5 with the top 2 going into the semis.
