putrevus Posted January 3, 2020 Posted January 3, 2020 Butler has to play fearless cricket to succeed in tests.Good start for him can he sustain.
Stan AF Posted January 3, 2020 Posted January 3, 2020 England need to get to 300 somehow so that their bowlers can have something to bowl at.
Cricwala Posted January 3, 2020 Posted January 3, 2020 This Pretorious guy is trundling at 120-125 but keeping it tight bowling around off. SA is still playing him as all rounder at 7. This forum would hv been all over him castigating for lack of speed if he was an Indian. In thirst for speed, which we have lacked for so long, we hv gone to other extreme and now condemn decent cricketers who bowl military medium as 2nd skill - along with Pandya, guys like Vijay Shankar, Dube have a role to play in international cricket. Maybe Pandya needs to focus on bowling ~ 133 but with better control instead of aiming for 140 and getting injured so often.
Cricwala Posted January 3, 2020 Posted January 3, 2020 1 hour ago, Real McCoy said: England crumbling again like usual. They have one gun player in Stokes. Root scores in meaningless dead rubbers and others are missing in action. They lost to NZ ffs. SA may not have the talent as before but are mentally equipped to beat the poms Shows why our 4-1 loss to them was such a shambolic performance.
Stan AF Posted January 3, 2020 Posted January 3, 2020 butler gone...got himself to an awkward position and nicked it successfully.
ganeshran Posted January 3, 2020 Posted January 3, 2020 Buttler scored runs but he never looked comfortable. He is lucky to have scored even 29 Stan AF 1
ganeshran Posted January 3, 2020 Posted January 3, 2020 Karan Arjun will face the new ball soon.. lets see if he can last
putrevus Posted January 3, 2020 Posted January 3, 2020 (edited) England with their make shift batting lineup is doing better than what Indians did in SA and people expected miracles with that line up. Edited January 3, 2020 by putrevus
Cricwala Posted January 3, 2020 Posted January 3, 2020 Butler flops again - another guy who makes merry against India but is mediocre otherwise. He averages 44 against us, 33 overall. Same for Curran - 39 against us, 29 overall. I put this down to inability to work players out, put plans in place...we rely too much on just on-field thinking and rote tactics. Curran and butler provided the lower order edge which cost us series, Bumrah was back by 3rd test and we had best attack - Bumrah, Shami, Ishant - for last 3 tests, yet lost 2-1. This pattern will keep repeating unless we get better backroom staff. Our current bowling is good, yet it's not mcgrath-Warne or walsh-ambrose level that captain can just throw ball and they will run through good teams. They need to be backed by thoughtful coaching, plans and smart captaincy. I can see santner, Watling, Wagner etc frustrate us similarly in NZ tour. Jimmy Cliff and Suhaan 2
