I dont think it should be a choice between Zaheer and Babar, ideally fit both in- possibly even at Miandads expense, though that is controversial. I also dont like Afridi opening, against other "ATG" new ball attacks he would be easy pickings. Ramiz or Harsh Thakors favourite to open?

Majid Khan, Saeed Anwar, Babar, Zaheer, Inzy, Imran, Sarfaraz, Afridi, Wasim, Waqar, Saqlain

issue is only 6 bowlers...

Yup in ATG 11 matches Afridi cannot face the new ball. I also put him in middle order.

see afridi played blinders against us and he was a leggie to that to 10 overs he can give for sure . His biggest issue was leftie bringing ball back in like irfan but Zak didnt bring ball back in that much. With afridi u basically have a floater

Can send sarfraz to open as well

I so wanted to fit zaheer abbas but cudnt.

I dont wanna drop razzaq for 2 season

he played pacers at death very well

As a bowler tendulkar didnt like him

Sehwag had a tremendous record against Pakistan,it was him who started to turn the corner for us against them, his initial assaults mostly never let them recover,i will always have Sehwag against pakistan, who they used to fear the most

Rohit

Sachin

Kohli

Gambhir

Is always a one way traffic, all of them take time to settle need one swashbuckler up in top4

Yeah, Sehwag is a must. He had the ability to set momentum of the match right in first few overs.

India.

Abbas could only feast on spin. 130 kmh+ bowling would make him extremely uncomfortable. Sohaib should be playing for Pakistan over Imran.

But a line-up of Rohit,Sachin,Kohli,Gambhir is too much pragmatic

why ?

Sachin in 90s use to bat quick in PP , when sehwag joined him he took the 2nd fiddle role

Kohli always bats run a ball , in last overs he also scores damn fast

Rohit covers n damages like no one, the guy has daddy 100s n 3 -200s surely he knws how to bat fast

Gambhir is just for saqlain, honestly i prefer KL but hehas played less game or else im mostly choosing azhar n ajay .

Kohli n rohit are not dravid or rahane they bat at good rate and score very consistently to . Kohli was the guys who chased 325 against lanka in 36 overs and Rohit has daddy 100s

They all are good to give a solid base and as we see in ODI once a team has good base they will make a big score

Sehwag most days never converted his starts....and was very inconsistent which is why he is in an underachiever in test .

also ur putting sachin at 3, sachin avg 10 at 3 position

kohli avg way better at 3 then 4

So for one batsman who was an underachiever ur basically changing position of 2 of ur best infact worlds best batsman in ODI . Someone like Roy atleast has avg of 40+.....

In t20 surely it makes sense as time is less but its 50 overs

You may have this line up for most of the occasions but come pakistan i will somehow accommodate Sehwag,if it had been about averages a guy like Rayudu too would have made it,but you need quick starts ,true for a player like Sehwag gets out in quest of quick runs, the pillars down the order can absorb the pressure created by his early dismissal

rohit (opener), kohli is just not about avg they have s/r 90+....rayudu s/r was in 70s and his problem was quality bowling .

Yes u need quick but u need to convert it as well ...A team scores big total when players score big scores

Changes can be made to the 11s per various parameters but overall Ind would have an edge esp. in pressure games so will win 3-2 (if not 4-1). Pak’s win(s) will come from maverick performances where a bowler and/or batsman become(s) unstoppable

Will also play a maverick 11

noticed one thing in that people under rate Sehwag  in general a lot in ODIs  because of his 35 avg: . Infact he was at least a very good category ODI batsman because of his very high str: of 104 . For a comparison Inzamam from the just preceeding decade  had a str: of only  72 with an avg: of 39.Inzamam had 53 not outs(inflates  average) where as Sehwag had only 13 not outs.

sehwag indeed was underachiever in ODI but ATG in test , surely he did play some outstanding knocks but still he was an underachiever.

when u pick an indian side he competes with indian player for a spot- for opening spot he competes with rohit, ganguly, gambhir, dhawan and thats very good competition

Sehwag threw his starts on way to many occasion, in a 50 overs game 35 in 20 ball doesnt help in long run. He competes with Rohit whose avg almost 20 more and as openers his s/r 93 which is why rohit is an ATG in ODI. Sehwag scores heavy in intial overs n those guys picks last overs n make them big ones. Surely sehwag will always be under consideration as tempting option Rohit has gone way ahead of him, in terms of numbers rohit has even better then sachin

A team shud play to its strength rather copying others

Inzy competes with pakistan batsman for middle order spot not indian players.

He didn't do that good against top two odi teams of his era (Aus & SA). I would have considered having such stat if he had faced 90s attack but he didn't.

Btw if strike rate is that big criteria to select player then we should select afridi (117 sr) over yuvi/dhoni (both had sr of 85-86) in Asia XI.

In a way, Sehwag is similar to Gilly and Jayasuriya, i.e. players who are more than numbers!

despite being from the immediately succeeding  decade, Sehwag  comes on top in one one comparison with some one like Inzamam for sure.Inzamam too was mediocre vs AUS & SAF with inferior str:

In limited overs, str: definitely is. Keep in mind Kapil Dev was the top ODI all rounder in the 80s because of his huge str: . He even surpassed Viv by a huge margin in str:. One practical demo: w.r.t this factor was the 83 world cup final.Kapil scored only 15 runs but of just 8 balls that allowed the lower order batsmen to take their own fair share of balls  to put on some thing on the board and the rest is history.

Good points! .... imo, there are players who play the game keeping stats in mind, and there are those who play the game on its merit and stats are a byproduct of those performances
