More realistic poll would have been: which one would hurt less?

1. Choke in WTC F

2. Choke in T20 WC KO

3. Not qualifying to WTC F

Remember this is panauti Kohli we are talking about.

First I wanted to react  then

Imagine a team winning most series (including tough overseas) and then stumbling in a session

It's pretty much the same for a world cup or any championship with knockouts.

Besides, good teams can come back after one or even two bad sessions. You can't just fluke a Test match win. No ?

Therein lies the error, equating Test match to ODIs or T20s.  A test match to decide which is best test side is a complete joke.

India winning the Aus tour later this year would a much bigger achievement than winning this WTC

Why ?

If we can do that for an ODI and a T20 , why not Tests ? Genuine question.

Test cricket is where everyone is sh#t at right now. Fact that we could get blanked down under(both oz and nz) and still make it to the finals and win the one-off Lords game to capture the trophy....Nothing sounds more hollow than being champions of such a field.

WT20 otoh is where everyone is going to be at their best(shorter format, greater talent pool available etc) with much greater competition, and winning that should be much more satisfying.

WTC is a waste of space gimmick. We may never see the 2nd edition of this crap as well. The conclusion ideally should be a minimum 3 match series, not a single match. Imagine a team winning most series (including tough overseas) and then stumbling in a session      (already imagining Kohli saying the golden words) to lose the WTC.

A win in most of the series you play or being competitive define what kind of test side you are, not winning this hodgepodge of an event.

I think WTC is here to stay, this is just the first edition and mistakes are bound to happen. Over time I think they will organize a 4 year WTC (all teams playing home and away against each other) cycle and have best of 3 finals. Topper should get 2/3 matches at home in the finals as just reward.

Let me give you a scenario

Team A has won everything home & away topping the league. Team B managed to scrape through with wins at home & getting demolished by other teams. It's different from what teams like SA used to do or India does now in LOIs tournaments, this is spread over a 2 year period involving multiple conditions and after slumming it out for 2 years you get a single match to determine the champion?

In the solitary final, toss/conditions can dictate a huge part & it can happen as we saw a club level team like WI beating Eng. That team might win the WTC but it would hard to acknowledge them as the leaders, if the gap between them in the WTC cycle was substantial.

Continuing from previous post, if India win the Aus tour & not even qualify for the WTC or not win it, it won't be a setback.

I don't think so. Not even sure about test cricket let alone WTC.

They're currently on 180/360. We're on 360/480.

I expect Bangladesh to win atleast one Test against them on home soil. So 1-1 most likely. Also I expect them to drop atleast one Test to either poyyzz or Windies. So, they'll most likely end up somewhere between 400 to 440.

Against the current England team, we have to perform miserably to not get atleast 90 points out of 120. So, 450 points with the whole Aus series still in the bank. Even if we get swept down under (worst case scenario) we will go through.

NZ will choke WI on flat Pattas like they did vs Eng.  WI ain't lasting 5 days. Poyzz may pull it off but no guarantee.  Toss factor will come into play there.

I'd put it this way if NZ manages to dominate like India in next two series at home.  It'll be a close call.

Remember they drew vs SL away,  They've beaten Pak in UAE so there is no reason they can't do it in BD which lost a Test to Afghans just coz Afg won the toss & batted first. A drawn series will also do the job.

And their Loss against Aus away.

Similarly we lost to NZ.  We are likely going to lose in Aus as well & this is where things will be on knife edge.  We have to win a test down under desperately & look to draw another.

England is gonna get beaten again just hope we don't let them draw a test.

In short

NZ win all home games.   Ind wins too

NZ Draws in SL.         Ind wins in WI

NZ loses in Aus.         Ind loses in NZ

NZ wins/Draws in BD.    Ind loses in Aus

Brilliantly put.

Also I didn't factor in the absence of Shakib for BD. So, yeah it can get really close.
