As you all may know, we have two chances of winning a big trophy next year.

First we have the World Test championship Final at Lords which will be played somewhere around June/July and then the T20 WC on home soil around Oct/Nov. I'm assuming it'll be an India vs Australia final at Lords (don't kill me if we choke against England at home and go out of it :p:)

Preferably, we all want to win both of em but if we had to pick one which one should it be ? And we all know, under Kohli it's too much to expect winning two ICC events in 4 months time. So which one should be the marquee event to win next year  ?

My pick will be the WTC final. First ever final, against Australia of all teams and at Lords. It cannot get better than that.

Please add your choices.

At the moment I'd be happy to take WT20.  However if India does well in Australia tour then I will tilt towards WTC.  Currently NZ v Aus final looks more likely.  I am hoping Bangla team thrashes NZ at home.

Don't think so.

They're currently on 180/360. We're on 360/480.

I expect Bangladesh to win atleast one Test against them on home soil. So 1-1 most likely. Also I expect them to drop atleast one Test to either poyyzz or Windies. So, they'll most likely end up somewhere between 400 to 440.

Against the current England team, we have to perform miserably to not get atleast 90 points out of 120. So, 450 points with the whole Aus series still in the bank. Even if we get swept down under (worst case scenario) we will go through.

Also, winning the Lord's final will pretty much confirm it that we are indeed a great Test side and deserved the no.1 spot we held for 4 years.

Losing it will reinstate that we're just a GOAT home track bully team which isn't good enough overseas against half decent teams.

WT20 we haven't got a hope

Last time I was this hopeless about our chances was before the 2013 champions trophy.

Hope it goes that way again.

WTC holds more weightage over T20 wc and rightly said our t20 wc chances are bleak, but we are good enough to make atleast semis anyway, and kohli being panauti , that's that

Yeah that's what I mean.

West Indies won 2 out of the last 3 T20 WCs and are currently "reigning world champions" in that format. But no-one really gives them as much respect as that warrants because well.....it simply doesn't.

Beating Australia in a Test final at Lords will be a pinnacle of Indian Test cricket history.... scratch that, Indian cricket history.

Winning a World Cup hands down. However 2007 WT20 win is one of our greatest wins, in terms of excitement, atompsphere, being iconic and changing the face of cricket it is a close no.2 to the 83 wc. I would rate that win over 2011, which a lot of us forget we were expected to win anyways from day 1.

Here are India’s greatest wins

83

2007 WT20

2011 WC

Aus series (this would have been 2 had we won the series in 2004-2008 or in the 90’s)

Winning in SA is the final frontier but doesn’t have the same glamour now. It will be like when we won in 2002 or from there onwards given the decline in SA cricket.

Need to win in Eng which we haven’t in over a decade

T20 is a game of chance. 1 freak spell or freak innings can turn the game. That’s why even weaker teams have a shot. The last time we won a meaningful T20 game it took a once in a lifetime performance by DK.

We don’t have such players apart from Rohit and to some extent the Koffee with Karan alumni Rahul and Pandya.

Kohli at his best can get you a 80(50) type knock to finish games but we need someone who can take 5 wickets in 2-3 overs or someone who can hit a 50(18) or a 100(35-40) balls which we don’t have.

Even though this white ball trophy drought is getting on my nerves, WTC final at Lord's conquering a super strong Aus (historically the GOAT team at that venue) side will be tough to beat.

WTC is a waste of space gimmick. We may never see the 2nd edition of this crap as well. The conclusion ideally should be a minimum 3 match series, not a single match. Imagine a team winning most series (including tough overseas) and then stumbling in a session      (already imagining Kohli saying the golden words) to lose the WTC.

A win in most of the series you play or being competitive define what kind of test side you are, not winning this hodgepodge of an event.
