Just because it is T20 doesn’t mean that at times can’t rotate and give the strike to a guy on the other end or any such scenario specific plays. For example even a guy like Chris Gayle picks the bowlers he wants to take the 20 run over from and play out if someone is in rhythm and looking dangerous. That’s a hall mark of a great player. Now please don’t say Gayle is an opener and Pandya is middle order, that’s just an example of how true great and talented players approach the game.

Got out to a magnificent catch. Put 2 6s in M2: Built a 30 runs p'ship. Unfortunately out hit wicket. Got 2 4s and a 6 in M3: Came in with MI in doldrums at 39/3. Built a partnership with Ishan. Got a 6 in. With RRR rising and Pollard to come, had to go for big shots. Caught at the edge of the boundary In all 3 innings, he has displayed attacking mindset, trying to drive the game forward, which is what is expected from him. His dismissals have been through magnificent catches and caught on the edge of the boundary, along with that hitwicket, (unlucky if you see how many catches have been dropped in this tourney) With 14 games to play, no team or player can perform in all of them. Pandya has not had a "star" performance (which is what people expect from him) so far but he has been ok. If sachin left means ull stop selecting batsman? Its not about some ego that he plays that means his kapil replacement. Cricket is a team sport and teams have requirement players will come n go. Dhoni went doest mean ull stop selecting keepers. Aussie dont say we wont select next spinner or keeper coz we will never have a warne or gilly again ....

Like how Pakistanis rate Afridi (who has won them T20 WC in 2009 as captain), Indians rate(d) Kapil, who would struggle to find a place in an Ind AT 11 purely as a bowler as he would compete with Srinath, Zak, Bumrah, Shami, Bhuvi, etc. The common argument is that there was no fast bowler in India, no bowling support (not accurate), and so on as if it is supposed to matters to others (Do we care if Sakib is more or less the lone ranger in BD team). Hadlee was a lone wolf too (again do others including in India care about that) and he is rated for his performances, which are exceptional (avg) in both formats as a bowler. Cant comment on kapil as i didnt see but afridi case was pure laziness in batting. He himself admits he didnt work on batting and hence it declined. In batting in LOIs, Kapil was probably more talented than Afridi but in terms of output similar. Since their careers are over, we have to judge them more on their numbers than potential. Kapil Dev's career is judged based on his allround skills not just based on his batting skill. He was the primary fast bowler for India for a 15 years.Afridi falls in the same category he took nearly 400 odi wickets. He was the player of tournament in 2007 T20 world cup. Ben Stoke won IPL MVP, did anybody stop Pandya from winning IPL MVP.
