coffee_rules Posted October 7, 2020 Posted October 7, 2020 Our 4,5,6 were Yuvraj, Raina and Dhoni. We need proper batsmen or batting credentials like them. Not tukkalis like Pandians.
Majestic Posted October 7, 2020 Posted October 7, 2020 Pandya and Jadeja are still our best bets as all-rounders fortunately or unfortunately. But if we play these two at 6 and 7, then we need someone who can bat at 8 also which can be Sundar I guess.

As of now trust them coz their is no option neither for 6 like Sam curran, moeen ali or willey or tom curan 8 like woakes Only thing fast track guys like abhishek n samad to India -A now , coz they need to develop quick
SecondSlip Posted October 7, 2020 Posted October 7, 2020 @TNAmarkFrmIndia 1. Rohit Sharma (C) 2. KL Rahul 3. Virat Kohli 4. Shreyas Iyer 5. Nitish Rana 6. Rishabh Pant (WK) 7. Hardik Pandya 8. Bhuvneshwar Kumar 9. Kuldeep Yadav 10. Jasprit Bumrah 11. Yuzvendra Chahal The best man to bat at #6 is Rishabh Pant. He is our next Raina. Nitish Rana should get chances as well. Him and Hardik can share the 5th bowler’s quota. Iyer also bowls some leg spin, he can also be part of the 5th bowler!
express bowling Posted October 8, 2020 Posted October 8, 2020 Hardik Pandya is the ideal No.6 IMO. And it allows us to play 6 bowlers and 3 specialist quicks. Hardik is not a good enough 3rd pacer or 5th bowler. He is a 6th bowler. But he can be a good No.6 batsman where we require a high SR big hitter.
express bowling Posted October 8, 2020 Posted October 8, 2020 (edited) ODI Team ---- 1. Rohit 2. Shaw / Gill 3. Kohli 4. Rahul (wk) 5. Iyer / Pant 6. Hardik 7. Jadeja 8. Saini / Bhuvi 9. Shami 10. Chahal / Kuldeep 11. Bumrah ---- Rahul must bat at No.4 in ODIs. He gives us the much needed strength in the middle order. Can play the long innings or hit big in the slog overs. ---- There must be 6 bowling options. ---- There must be 3 specialist pacers and not more than 1 swing bowler among them. ---- Hardik can only be a 4th pacer / 6th bowler. ---- There should be big hitters from 4 to 7. Best way to ruin his career now that he has found the confidence as a batsman. Brian Lara agrees with me. Fair enough. I have no issues with Rahul not keeping wickets. But I think the TM will try to use him as one. 22 minutes ago, sarchasm said: Dhawan's time is up. Yes. But he us unlikely to be dropped by the TM. If I were the decision maker, I would replace him. 22 minutes ago, sarchasm said: Ditto Jadeja. Jadeja 2.0 is batting well and hitting well in limited over matches too. I was against the Jadeja of old playing in ODIs. But not now. And he is an economical bowler. 22 minutes ago, sarchasm said: Gill is good but not yet assured/confident. He's still discovering his game. Just like KL Rahul till a few years ago. Shaw and Rohit would be a more effective opening pair IMO, as Rohit is s slow starter and Shaw is a dasher from the start. They will complement each other. But I want Gill to get chances too, and I don't know exactly where. 22 minutes ago, sarchasm said: A good team to put together with 2023 in mind would go like this. Rohit and Shaw to open. Gill being the reserve opener. Kohli, KLR, Iyer in the middle. Iyer still on a notice to prove his game against pace. Pant and Pandya as lower order bats. Chahal, Saini, Shami, Bumrah, Axar/Gopal, Bhuvi etc being the bowling options. I agree with almost all of it. But my choice is Hardik at 6 ... as I want 5 specialist bowlers.

Also, we can't afford four tailenders from 8-11. Pandya may play as specialist batsmen but I am not convinced with the opinion that he is good enough to play as specialist bat for a team like India. He can do good power hitting but that is not enough, someone like Stokes can construct the inning and do power hitting both. Can Pandya come to bat at 25-4 and chase down 240? I guess No, he will have to bowl some overs also to merit a place.
