Shankar adds nothing to the team, showed it during the WC. Better to pick a specialist batsman than him.

he just played 2 innings in Wc, what can u judge anyone by that. Never judge someone with 2 games, In wc only when bhuvi got injured him being there helped

he was good in NZ tour n home series against aus

He is far better player of fast bowling then iyer

Specialist we already have the problem is 6th bowler. Shankar is a specialist batsman only, just becoz someone has extra skill doesnt mean he is less specialist. In Nz-A tour he scored ahead of all these specialist .

Iyer cant play short stuff

manish gets stuck against spin

so this specialist word is not ideal for them

The captain has a habbit of chasing the ball and moving the fielders to where runs are conceded! Never going to get the over rates better with such a reactive leadership

he ll have to learn to manage , we shud play our best bowlers not cover captain inability

Plus with all the injuries, it's clear his body cannot take the load of bowling.

Injuries are certainly a huge concern with him, it is hard to expect him to survive one whole tournament without getting injured.

But I was just making a case of playing him  by dropping Jadeja who anyways will do nothing decent with bat. But I think it's bette to go with the same team now because in this case, I will have to drop Iyer and play an attacking batsmen at 6 with Rahul at 5 and Pandya at 7.

The position at which Iyer bats, he will get to play spin and 5th bowler more so than pace bowlers and he is very good in rebuilding the inning.

by that logic raina shudnt have been exposed as he bated even lower, even rayudu n duminy

These days teams go with 4 seamers 3 main and 1 all rounder , he has even struggled against holder and got out to henriques. Once team knws ur weakness they ownt dish out u what u like

As i said quick wrist spin is also an issue , not to forget he also starts slow but now the world know and they will pepper him with hard length when he comes.

On many days he can be in very soon

He got out to Henriques because the target was 390 and he realised that he needs to play more risky shots as Kohli must bat long. Even the very best batsmen can get out to part timers, de Villiers got out to Pollard in an IPL game. When the required rate is high, you take that extra risk and it's okay to get out to anyone. Atleast he got his team past 150 by the time he got out and they were well alive in the chase.

Iyer is an upgraded version of Rayudu, very good in building inning and doesn't waste many balls in that process and is also a far better fielder than him. Raina batted down the order because his biggest strength was his hitting skills and he couldn't play the anchor role as good as some other guys in that team. Iyer is tailor-made for building the inning from 50-2, 65-2 or 80-2 type situation.

no he got out due to his poor technique , look very well explained and even if u want to ignore it and  see his the pic...he was in poor position

Also He has been troubled by even bouncers of Woakes, Holder and unadkat they dont have that much pace

this needs to be addresed for his own sake

yea he is an upgrade for sure

No he is a slow starter like top 3 , he is no raina or yuvi who can from ball 1

If he doesnt get over this he innings building wont come, i m not saying drop him as of now but this needs to be soughted or else he ll score against Avg side but the minute top side comes it will be the same story which also happened with rayudu

Kishan is definitely an upgrade over the hack Iyer.

Heck I would back Suresh Raina to comeback and do well than these new gen guys.

He got out to slower ball of Henriques, not like he was bounced out.

Only thing wrong there is he forgot to keep his bat down while leaving the ball. My only problem with Iyer is not able to play freak innings and hit out fast bowlers for sixes. We had Yuvraj at 4 who could hit fast bowlers and play quick innings when needed.

im saying problem isnt pace its the length which puts him in poor position, take a look at that pic...be it a slower ball thats not the position

If Iyer is bad then what is Pandya? All he does is camp behind poping crease and heave.  Guy like Iyer needs to be given chances, he will get better in everything. He will be very good player for India all he needs is some time.
