Ideally, need players who can avg around 35 (if not more) In the middle order, we need more batsmen to avg 40+ In 2016-20 period, Ind, basically, relied on Pujara, a virtual opener in many games, in the top order (the leader in that group) and Kohli in the middle order .... Pant and SDP (Hardik), playing as ARs, have played a couple of good knocks and could have been further developed on potential Edited December 23, 2020 by zen sorak 1 Link to comment
express bowling
@zen You need to post these stats, leaving out home tests for players ( like Smith, Root, Williamson ) Most players score much more at home. Link to comment

Vk1
unfortunately SouthAfrica is regressing very fast and mostly due to that cultural BS . we might have to call it ENA very soon.. thankfully the tiny kiwis seem to produce good talent and puch above their weight. Link to comment

These are already "away" stats (outside their home) for all batsmen in top order and middle order respectively .... I will add the "away" note in the OP for more clarity .... also min games played in the respective batting order is 6 PS Therefore, talking about Root .... In Aus, NZ and SA: Overall avg in the period is 51 In top order 26 (1 game only) In middle order 53 (15 games, which is what you see here in the MO section) PPS Similarly, for Vihari in SENA Overall avg is 21 In top order 11 (1 game only) In middle order 23 (6 games, which is what you see here in the MO section) Edited December 23, 2020 by zen express bowling 1 Link to comment

Lots of South Africans are moving to countries like NZ. Both Glenn Philippe & Devon Conway are Saffers & now the future of kiwi batting line ups. Saffers are still producing top players but quota system will ruin their cricket. express bowling 1 Link to comment

Another six months of SA cricket should clear the doubt if SENA should remain SENA or become ENA. This migration will help NZ become stronger. Vk1
Also, I think comparing vs SENA for India is a lot more tougher for India than it is for the rest of the SENA countries.. if we compare Australia against SENI, conditions in SA are very much similar to Aus and vice-versa so they have an advantage there.. likewise for Eng and NZ. However considering the resources India has, it is not unreasonable to expect from our team. express bowling 1 Link to comment

RSA will bounce back like in rugby. In 2 decades time they went from to All SENAW countries are sporting powerhouses (WI fails in cricket because of different reasons, imagine fielding a cricket team with 3 Indians, 2 Pakistanis, 2 Lankans, 2 Toygers and one each from Afg, Nepal without a committed board). Coloured+Black population in RSA is over 90% and they were kept away from mainstream cricket for so long despite having interest. And they have pretty good cricketers from these communities like Ntini, Amla, Philander, Rabada, Duminy, Maharaj, Ngidi. Give them some time, these quotas will pay dividends just like in rugby. Your post looks very promising. however I guess Cricket is not as popular a sport as Rugby is.. it will be even more difficult in such case. Hope they come back with a bang in another 5 years. Hope they come back with a bang in another 5 years. Among non-whites cricket has always been more popular there, or should I put it this way-> less aversion to cricket than rugby!!!! During apartheid years rugby was seen as the Afrikaner (Dutch descent) sport and rightly so, non-whites actively hated it.....associated the sport with the tyrant rulers. It was very common to see their rugby teams getting booed by non-whites even in early-mid 90s, 1995 WC partially changed that trend. They even wanted to ban Springboks, shown in the movie Invictus Cricket was the English sport and English origin people in that country were different compared to Afrikaners, many wanted to end the unjust system, generally seen as more sympathetic and less racist in the eyes of the oppressed. For RSA blacks football is #1 by a long distance, cricket #2 and rugby #3. For brown folks, don't even need to say. Moreover rugby is seen as more elitist over there, played in schools/Unis out of reach for majority blacks. This quota system was very much needed, but have to be patient before results start to show, may even take 15-20 years more (one generation) but guarantee RSA's days as a top cricket team are far from over. After isolation due to apartheid they came back as a top 2-3 team in 1991-92 and if not for ATG Aus they would have been compared to ATG WI in the 90s and 2000s, one can imagine how good their system is and their sports culture Edited December 23, 2020 by Gollum Vk1 1 Link to comment

They still have legit talents. I agree its an elitist sport in south africa just like it is in india. South africa will bounce back. It will probably take another 5 years but rabada, ngidi, nortje is a fantastic pace attack for SENA conditions. I am 100% sure they will pump pakistan again with a bouncer barrage attack.
