No Ranji Trophy in 2020-21, but BCCI to hold domestic 50-over games for men, women, and U-19 boys

There will be no Ranji Trophy for the first time since its inception in 1934-35, but the BCCI has announced that the senior men's, senior women's and Under-19 men's 50-over competitions would be held in the current domestic season, which has been affected by the Covid-19 pandemic in a major way. Jay Shah, the BCCI secretary, wrote to the various state associations on Friday announcing this, adding that "this has been decided after having received your [state associations'] feedback".

 

Pointing out that "it has been difficult to plan the cricket calendar on account of the precautions that are necessary for the safe conduct of the games," Shah wrote: "… it was extremely important for us to ensure that women's cricket takes place and I am extremely happy to inform you that we are going to conduct the Senior Women's One-day tournament simultaneously with the Vijay Hazare Trophy [men's 50-over tournament] and follow it up with Vinoo Mankad Trophy Under-19.

Disappointing not to have any FC cricket.

 

Instead of VZ Trophy, could BCCI not have found time for Duleep Trophy or something similar while the Eng series was on? 4 teams - India A, B, C, D or red green kinds with say 18-20 players in each squad , each play the other teams, top 2 go to finals. Could have been wrapped up in 5 weeks at two venues, should have been manageable

I like this idea a lot.

 

In fact I have been wanting this in a big way every year.

There is a constraint. With limited teams and players, most domestic players will be sitting at home. One day tournament gives everyone a chance to play.

I just feel sad,i know where the wind is blowing and i feel Test cricket is not a priority for any cricket boards .

VHT - Feb

FC Trophy - March easily doable if they wanted to

Don't think VHT is possible in just a month due to bubble. Will be played in limited centers and in T20 multiple matches per day can be played, still took 21 days to finish.
