Ashwin took 6 wickets but still you are on his case.

Where have I said that Ashwin would not be picking up wkts in Indian conditions :hmmm: ... The post is on him making the best use of the pitch

The surface was good for batting on the first 3 days. Even now if we bat intelligently, we may secure a draw. Its turning a bit but not that difficult to bat.

“day 4” pitch is what I am talking about :hmm:

He did take 6 wickets didnt he. He cant take all the wickets :noidea:

As I said he needs to continue doing in the absence of Jadeja (don’t know when he will be back) as other spinners are relatively less experienced ... also try to take the track out of equation by being more penetrative when the conditions do not help that much

Taking 6/10 is more than what you can expect from a bowler. Even Jadeja will struggle without another bowler for support. If you want to take the pitch out of the equation, why did you mention day 4 pitch then. Not sure if you are trolling

because you quoted my post made on day 4 when Eng started its innings and where he needed to make the best use of the pitch at that point in time after a lack lustre performance in the 1st inning (that is where he needs to try to take the conditions out of equation esp. as an experienced bowler moving forward) :hmmm:

that is what I said in that post you quoted made at the “start” of Eng’s 2nd innings that he needs to make best use of the pitch on day 4 (finally bowling during his strong area) ... he “went on” pick 6 wkts in that innings ... where have I said that picking 6 wkts is not making the best use of the pitch? :hmmmm:

Sometime back I was critical of Ashwin but this is a different Ashwin. He is making it count but Nadeem is not that bad either. He needs experience.

Washington Sundar plays right into my theory that all rounders do not exist.

Did you not say Nadeem is better than Ashwin? Khota bhai

Ashwin bowled relatively well to the newbies but Roots smashed him so far on a day 4 pitch ... Needs to make the pitch count

This is what I responded to. So what does making the pitch count mean here. Root is on the form of his life and scored a 200 in the first dig and batting with a 240 run lead. Him "smashing" Ashwin in this situation is how anyone in Root's position and situation will do in test matches. Ashwin is already on the backfoot at this point. So when you say him not making the pitch count is being unreasonable here.

So now after the england innings, are you saying he made the best use of the pitch or not :winky:

Before today, at home: 44 tests, 257 wkts@23, 21 5-ers, 6 10-fers.  Barring 2012 Test series vs ENG at home early in his career, no failures at home.

Well yeah he definitely needs to lift his game

Making the pitch count means utilizing day 4 conditions which most experienced Ind spinners do in Ind whether it is Kumble, Bhajji, Ashwin or Jadeja ... If an experienced batsman, who does not do that well in difficult batting conditions, is on 30 on a good batting pitch, fans would expect him to make the pitch count. Similarly, for experienced spinners on day 4/5

The issue appears to be that you are quoting a post made during a certain stage of the game, where he needed to bowl better, and responding to it as if it was made after the innings

Yes, since he picked up those wkts. As I said in the OP, he needs to use the 2nd inning to drive his performances forward in the series and not solely rely on pitches on day 4/5 (in the absence of Jadeja. Do not know when he would be back)

And your issue is that I didn't see when you typed your earlier post and responded to after the days play. Fine. but you need to understand this is a team game where there needs to be atleast 2 players preferably more who are creating pressure. Whats the use of ashwin, bumrah creating pressure when you have nadeem releasing the pressure created.

Even in the post lunch session on day 1, ashwin was bowling well and bumrah and ishant were reversing from the other end. then our captaan removed them and put Nadeem and Sundar on. The change on both ends released the pressure and root was able to gain some momentum. this is more of a captaincy problem than a bowler problem. If it was Rahane who was captaining, he would have the combo for a bit longer or removed just one of the bowlers and have a mix and match. The match at galle in 2015 was a good example of how kohli captains and he hasnt learnt that well over the years.

On 4-5 day, I expect experienced spinners to do well (if they do not perform, when would they) ... With Jadeja not available, I want Ashwin to step up his game even more, performing relatively better even when conditions are relatively more batting friendly ... Say Eng wins all the tosses, does it mean that our experienced spinner won't put his hand up like in the 1st innings ... When the pitch helps, we do not blame other factors. When it does not, everything else is a factor but the bowler

@Khota is this true lol

Sometime back when he was in a slump and I was proven correct. Right now he has it all together so I have to praise him. I only go by recent performances and he did good in AUS.

Same goes for Rohit, I am his biggest fan but he needs to sit out the next match. I dont support anyone for more than 2 matches.
