Best ODI team from the subcon (min 2 major world title wins

  • 1983 to 1985 Ind: Won many tournaments including 1983 WC under Kapil and 1985 WSC in Australia under Gavaskar. Tapered off with a loss to Eng in the WC SF in 1987. The team blended multi skills and specialist players well so anyone on his day could win a game
  • 1989 to 1992 Pak: This team was the most consistent if you consider its performance since 1979 entering SF/F in all the major events b/w 1979 to 1992. Finally won the Nehru Cup in Ind in 1989 beating the WI in the final and the WC in 1992 in Aus. The side was captained by Imran apart from the 1979 one, which was led by Asif Iqbal
  • 1996 to 2002 SL: Its 1996 WC win is legendary too. Went on to share the ICC Champions Trophy with Ind. Went out in the SF of 2003 WC v eventual winners Aus. Ranatunga led the team in 1996, while Jayasuriya led in 2002.
  • 2011 to 2013 Ind: An evolving side with a bunch of experienced and new players. Won the WC in 2011, followed it up with the CT win in 2013. Dhoni led both the teams, along w/ the 2007 T20 WC winning team. Lost to eventual winners Aus in the 2015 WC SF

Answer depends on what rules and ball types the game is being played with.

The Indian WC 2011 team was a juggernaut for the rules of its times.  But it would stumble badly in the current rule setup with 2 white balls and only 4 fielders in the middle 30 overs.  And it did, as we have seen since the rules were updated.

The 1985 Indian team is quite underrated, but I doubt that a top order carrying Shastri and Gavaskar could adapt to the 350 par scores of today.

I am going with 83-85 Ind, mainly because it won both its titles outside Asia (relatively unfamiliar conditions), along w/ opening the title floodgates for other Asian teams ... 89-92 Pak, the most consistent one b/w 79-92, and 11-13 Ind won one in Asia and one outside ... 96-02 SL, though won both titles in a dominating fashion without losing a game in those respective tournaments (including sharing the title with Ind in 2002, which Ind could have won), its performance outside Asia was relatively average

Going twith 2011 - 13 was the best side of its era.

The others were debatable apart from 1983-85.

Pakistan were a great side but not truly the best in their era of dominance.

I think current side has potential to pip them all as there is a good chance to see India win the world cup in 2023.

Under Kohli post 2016 India have had a phenomenal record overall compared to everyone barring England, who are slightly ahead.

If this tenure culminates with an India win in 2023 they would be one of the best of all time let alone best Asian side.

This shouldnt be a debate, the team that won us the WC in 2011 clearly that has won multiple trophies and would beat the 83-85 team comfortably.

I know unofficially the 83 team won 2 WC trophies.
