What value does Ben Stokes bring outside home?

Rahane must be dropped, Stokes is amazing.

 

Performance in Australia.

 

Rahane - 112 when India was at lowest, won the game. 2 centuries over, 2 great innings. 

Stokes - 1 century when match/series was lost, 1 5-fer in dead rubber.

 

Verdict - Rahane is usleless, mediocre. Stokes is great.

 

 

I think he hit a ton when he just started his career..  Anyways Rahane & Stokes is a joke comparison.  Why don't you see what he has done in SA for two consecutive away tours or what he has done in India.  India would kill to have a player like Stokes right now...  Over guys like Pujara Rahane Kolli

What should we call him? Batting alrounder or a bowling alrounder. He seems to be a batting alrounder but with below average batting records.

Pujara, Rahane both have won series in Australia.

 

How do Pujara and Rahane miss out on bringing such immense value?

Interesting take ......you would as an Indian selector at the selection meeting put forward the logic Rahane should be picked for Indian team because of Ben Stokes performances for England .

Does he need to be strictly classified in one of the two types u mention in order to hold his place or gain respect from the world ? 

 

He's shown the ability to raise his game in both facets and win games with bat and/or ball.

Exactly It's ok sometimes to be proven wrong..  Anyways the Rahane Stokes comparison was weird one in every way.  Stokes also performed away in Aus India SA twice Sri lanka(2018 tour).   Sometimes people give too much emphasis on stats..  In fact there is nobody in world cricket that can do what Stokes does.

Stokes is the second highest run getter away from home after Root with an average of 38 and the fourth highest wicket taker at an average of 31. If there was an Indian player like this with these figures away from home, we would be worshipping him.

Only Rahane, Kohli and Pujara have a higher batting average than Stokes away from home in the last 10 years. And Pujara's away average is just 80 bps higher than Stokes. Even Kohli will be hard pressed not to pick a Stokes kind of player in India if he was available.
