Because his mother is English , he has always held a British passport , rules in those days allowed associate countries to play associate then for a test nation if you qualified ( both players from Ireland and Scotland have played for England ) and most important he always said  from a very early age it was England he wanted to play for .

Yeah.. he too should be dropped but they wont do that

most impressed by his comments post match.. he is apparently happy that he is getting such pitches to prepare better for WC.. doesnt mind losing or would rather lose to learn it the hard way..compare this to our SF against NZ.. we were totally unprepared
