One big difference between earlier express men like Umran, Tyagi, Mayank and Ashok now is that .... Ashok is playing FC cricket regularly and doing reasonably too. Played all 3 formats for his state this season.

Longer format bowlers are really assets for their sides

I would like to name Apple Tom also here, this boy has played reasonable amount of cricket last season and knows how to bowl at different spells,BCCI needs to point their radar at him too not just the names they have presently

The more the better as they say,if we plan well we can somehow get back are 2015-2021 era pace attack

After a long time, we might have discovered a gem in Ashok Sharma. We felt similar excitement with Umran (faded away), Kartik tyagi (inconsistent) and Mayank (fitness issues). But Ashok Sharma has got all the right ingredients- raw pace, beautiful action and bowling brain as well. No fitness issues as of now.

plus he has played domestic cricket

Yeah

Eden, Ashok & Gurnoor, they have played FC games and toiled hard. Probably Eden & Gunoor cant bowl cutters, slower ones and hence IPL didnt choose them. But these bowlers are a MUST for Tests.

Gurnoor is perfect test bowler. Can be desi Ambrose while eden is still young and will get chances in future

Gurnoor is already 25, will be 26 by May.

If we dont play him now, high chance he will lose the motivation in next couple of years and become another Abey Kuruvilla.

Siraj & Bumrah too are 32-33...now sure how long they'll play, but for sure it will be pick and choose in a year or two. Akashdeep is injury prone and nearing 30, Prasidh too is 30.

Gurnoor was close to selection during last year sa test series but now with aquib nabi ahead in peaking order we will have to see. It will be shame if gurnoor doesnt play for india:((

Gurnoor must play tests this year.

SL 2 Tests- Bumrah, Siraj & spinners will play.
NZ 2 Tests- Bumrah, Siraj, Rana/Nabi/Akashdeep/Prasidh & Reddy (as allrounder)

Don't think Gurnoor will play.

Akashdeep is injured.

Harshit is injured and was out of the test squad even when fit.

Reddy occupied a different slot.

Gurnoor is ahead of Nabi in India A. And I doubt Gambhir would like a medium pacer like Nabi.

Bumrah is injury prone.

How is this kid generating so much pace?

Fast bowling biomechanics always fascinate me. You have big rugby physique bowlers like Akhtar and Flintoff, also you have aerodynamic and sleek bowlers like Holding/Donald/Bond.

Ashok Sharma looks quite normal to me.

Ashok has almost everything needed to bowl express. High concentration of fast twitch fibres, high flexibility, rhythmic beautiful run up, good loading, braced front leg, great action, finishes his action and bends his back a lot.

if he is bowling 140 to 155k- he should be picked up straight into the india 15 for odi or t20 or even tests. i feel Mayank could do better and be even more accurate.
