How important are Man of the Match awards?

We talk a lot about how there is a tendency for players to become consolidators/accumulators as they develop ("Strike rate is overrated" mentality) but the reason for this is clear--that is where all the riches lie.

IPL MOMs seem to always go to the consolidators and accumulators and they're the ones that regularly get rewarded over more explosive batting knocks, or bowlers performance. Should we have an overhaul of the entire system so we give MOM to more explosive performances and those we need to incentivise

Just the recent example where the MOM committee decided Dhawan's 85 (54) was better than Shaw's 72 (38) sends a strong signal to all youngsters what is most appreciated by the indian cricket establishment

Dhawan won MOM yesterday over Shaw because he also contributed three catches in the field.  People with an understanding of the game realize this, but icf brain trust continues to believe there are only two phases to the game when there are three.
